Timberwolves Use Cologne To Hype Love As All-Star

Jan 29, 2011 6:02 PM

The Timberwolves are using cologne as one way to try and persuade Western Conference coaches to vote Kevin Love into next month's All-Star Game as a reserve.

The fragrance is called "Numb#rs."

A box was mailed to all Western Conference coaches that includes a bottle of the cologne, a DVD with a 30-second commercial for the product, an advertisement that includes Love and a local model dressed to the nines and a list of his accomplishments on the back, and a bottle of face lotion.

"It's all in good fun," Love said. "You never try to take yourself too seriously. If you can have fun with yourself it's a good part of your life."

The team also set up a website -- www.612AllStar.com -- where fans can see the whole package. The area code for Minneapolis is 612.

Love is averaging 21.6 points and 15.7 rebounds per game, the first player to average at least 20 points and 15 rebounds a game since Moses Malone in 1982-83.

Kahn Insists Rubio Will Play For Minnesota

Jan 27, 2011 6:39 AM

Minnesota GM David Kahn called a New York Times report this week on Ricky Rubio "much ado about nothing" and "not worthy of a response."

An unnamed source close to Rubio indicated that the point guard wants to play for Boston, New York or Miami when he comes to the NBA.

Kahn said he remains "absolutely" certain Rubio will join the Wolves next season after a buyout with his Regal Barcelona team becomes affordable.

Rubio Still Not Interested In Playing For Minnesota

Jan 23, 2011 8:07 PM

The Timberwolves are working towards bringing Ricky Rubio to the NBA, but rumors continue to swirl that the guard doesn't want to play for the team.

"The bottom line is, why would he want to play in Minnesota?" a senior member of Rubio's camp told Jonathan Givony in a piece of the New York Times.

"He'll continue to say all the diplomatic things, and Minnesota needs to keep his value up for trade purposes, but the family's preference is to be on the East Coast, specifically New York, Miami or Boston. He wouldn't be troubled if he has to stay another year."

The Timberwolves hold his exclusive draft rights, meaning they are the only NBA team with whom he can negotiate.

A new collective bargaining agreement may not be as favorable for rookies.

"I'm not focused on the NBA right now," Rubio said. "Right now, I don't want to talk and I don't want to think."

Flynn Won't Go Back To D-League

Jan 18, 2011 5:26 PM

Jonny Flynn has struggled since his return from offseason hip surgery, but the Timberwolves won't send him back to the D-League for more seasoning.

"He's playing here, that doesn't make any sense," coach Kurt Rambis said of sending Flynn back down.

"He's practicing with us. He's getting time. He's not the first player and certainly won't be the last player to go through rough stretches in their career. For the vast majority of players, it happens to all of them. It's just something he's going to have to work his way through and we believe he will work his way through."

Knicks Will Soon Trade Randolph For Pick

Jan 15, 2011 10:15 AM

The Knicks plan to trade Anthony Randolph for a first-round pick within the next two weeks, according to league sources.

Chris Broussard of ESPN.com lists Minnesota, Indiana and Portland as the most likely destinations.

New York's ideal scenario would be to use the pick they acquire for Randolph in a package for Carmelo Anthony, but the trades are not completely related.

Jumping against Washington's Al Thornton at one end of the court in the first quarter, Milicic batted the ball backward and right into the basket.

Thornton was credited with the bucket.

Milicic finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds in Minnesota's 109-97 victory.

Beasley Will Give Ankle Time To Heal

Jan 12, 2011 5:07 PM

Michael Beasley injured his left ankle for the third straight game on Tuesday against the Spurs and says he'll give it time to heal.

"I've just got to give it a couple days," he said.

Beasley turned the ankle Friday against Portland, aggravated it Sunday in San Antonio and then again in the final four minutes of Tuesday's loss.

"I wasn't 100 percent coming into the game, but I felt like I was good enough to play meaningful minutes," Beasley said. "That's the third game straight I stepped on somebody's foot. It was just one of them things."

Wolves Called For Five Technicals In 10 Seconds

Jan 12, 2011 8:30 AM

The Timberwolves were called for five technical fouls in a 10-second span by referee Ken Mauer in Tuesday night's loss to the Spurs.

Manu Ginobili made all five free throws, allowing San Antonio to take control of the game they eventually won 107-96.

"I've never seen that before," said Minnesota forward Kevin Love, who picked up the final technical of the five. "Five in a row, that had to be a first. That was crazy."

The Timberwolves were rallying in the third when the incident took place.

Mauer gave one each to Darko Milicic and Corey Brewer for gesturing toward him on the same play, a rare occurrence even with the NBA making that a point of emphasis.

"I've never seen that. Never," said Michael Beasley.

"I've seen simultaneous Ts on different teams. But on the same team, that was a first. It's been happening all year. ... I don't like getting five Ts in 30 seconds, but you've got to see where the refs are coming from. If they feel you're out of place, they've been doing it all year."

Kurt Rambis got up and went to Mauer to discuss the calls and after a very brief conversation, he was given two quick technicals and ejected.

Ginobili hit four free throws and then Love threw his arms up 10 seconds later and hollered after officials did not call a loose-ball foul on Tim Duncan.

"I was glad it was us shooting," Ginobili said. "It was kind of awkward. It was strange."
