Rambis Expected To Be Fired, Announcement Could Come After CBA Resolution

Apr 15, 2011 4:55 PM

While Kurt Rambis is expected to be fired, it remains uncertain when the decision will be announced, several league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

One Wolves player told Yahoo! Sports that Rambis’ game plans were often confusing and the coaching staff didn’t seem to be on the same page.

Ownership may wait on firing Rambis until the CBA is resolved to save money on a new hire.

Love Clinches Rebounding Title

Apr 14, 2011 10:31 AM

Timberwolves forward Kevin Love sat out the last six games with a strained left hamstring, but he still finished the season leading the NBA in rebounding with 15.2 per game.

Love said winning the rebounding title was the highlight of the season for him, a season filled with milestones for the third-year forward.

"The rebounding title is special because I was able to do it over the course of the season," Love said.

Love, who set a modern-era NBA record with 53 consecutive double-doubles, is the second Wolves player to lead the league in rebounding. Kevin Garnett led the league in 2003-04 and 2004-05. Love snapped Orlando center Dwight Howard's streak of five straight rebounding titles.

Love also averaged 20.2 points, making him the first player to average 20 points and 15 rebounds per game since Moses Malone in 1982-83.

Rice, Theus Among Finalists For UNLV Job

Apr 6, 2011 10:23 AM

UNLV named its four finalists, announcing that St. John's assistant Mike Dunlap, Timberwolves assistant Reggie Theus, former Oregon coach Ernie Kent, and BYU associate head coach Dave Rice will continue on in the interview process.

"Over the last several days, we have been involved in an exhaustive and thorough search to find the best person for our vacant men's basketball head coaching position," UNLV Athletic Director Jim Livengood said in the release. "The list has been narrowed to four outstanding candidates and I'm looking forward to continuing the interview process. We are looking forward to naming our new head coach very soon."

Sources have consistently reiterated to the Sun this week that Rice, who played on UNLV's back-to-back Final Four teams in 1990 and 1991 and was an 11-year Rebels assistant coach, is the guy to beat.
