Team USA has ramped up the selection process for this summer's Olympics in Paris. There are 11 players that the United States are counting on playing or are in strong consideration for a roster spot. The initial 11 are:

  • Bam Adebayo - Miami Heat
  • Devin Booker - Phoenix Suns
  • Stephen Curry - Golden State Warriors
  • Anthony Davis - Los Angeles Lakers
  • Kevin Durant - Phoenix Suns
  • Anthony Edwards - Minnesota Timberwolves
  • Joel Embiid - Philadelphia 76ers
  • Tyrese Haliburton - Indiana Pacers
  • Jrue Holiday - Boston Celtics
  • LeBron James - Los Angeles Lakers
  • Jayson Tatum - Boston Celtics

None of these players are considered absolute locks as of yet. But all 11 are under strong consideration and have mentioned interest in representing Team USA this summer, provided they are healthy enough to play.

Of that group, Booker, Curry, Durant, Embiid, Holiday, James and Tatum are considered to be the United States core group. Edwards and Haliburton are being considered after strong play at last summer's FIBA World Cup. Adebayo and Davis are garnering interest for additional frontcourt depth around Embiid.

Jeff Peterson, Trajan Langdon, Matt Lloyd Emerge As Candidates For Hornets' Job

Feb 28, 2024 11:59 AM

The Charlotte Hornets have begun their search to replace Mitch Kupchak to run their basketball operations department.

Sources tell Marc Stein that the Brooklyn Nets' Jeff Peterson, New Orleans Pelicans' Trajan Langdon and Minnesota Timberwolves' Matt Lloyd are three leading candidates for the position. Stein later reported that Austin Ainge of the Boston Celtics is another candidate to monitor.

Peterson is a top aide to Sean Marks and Brooklyn has a strong interest in trying to keep him. Peterson previously worked with Hornets' co-owner Rich Schanll with the Atlanta Hawks.

Langdon has been a strong candidate for lead decision-maker jobs previously.

Lloyd was one of Tim Connelly's first hires with the Wolves and has previous experience with the Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic.

Marcus Morris Leaning Towards Joining Timberwolves

Feb 12, 2024 9:11 AM

Wolves Acquire Monte Morris From Pistons For Troy Brown Jr, Shake Milton, 2030 2nd

Feb 7, 2024 6:38 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves are acquiring Monte Morris from the Detroit Pistons for Troy Brown Jr., Shake Milton and a 2030 second-round pick from the Timberwolves.

Minnesota had looked into several options to upgrade their point guard position behind Mike Conley ahead of Thursday's trade deadline. They ultimately landed on Morris, who was drafted in 2017 by Wolves front office executive Tim Connelly when he ran the Nuggets.

Detroit will need to cut or trade another player to complete this 2-for-1 deal. Detroit continues the reshaping of their roster, as they previously agreed to a trade for Simone Fontecchio of the Utah Jazz earlier in the day.

Timberwolves Interested In Monte Morris

Feb 5, 2024 9:08 AM

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been looking to upgrade their bench. One spot the Wolves are looking to fill is at backup point guard behind Mike Conley. That has Minnesota looking at Monte Morris of the Detroit Pistons.

Morris made his Pistons debut on January 24. He's played in all six games since returning from a right quad strain. The Timberwolves interest in the veteran guard dates back to last season, when Morris played for the Washington Wizards.

Minnesota president of basketball operations Tim Connelly originally drafted Morris in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft. The Wolves have been looking to stabilize their backup point guard spot, and Morris has extensive experience in that role.

Morris is one of several veterans the Pistons are fielding offers for ahead of Thursday's deadline. Detroit acquired the veteran point guard this summer in a salary-clearing trade from Washington.
