Offers Pouring In For Rubio

Jun 30, 2009 12:42 AM

Ricky Rubio has become the most sought after player in the NBA.

Executives across the league are flooding Timberwolves president David Kahn's office with calls offering trades for Rubio.

The Wolves, however, are in no hurry to trade Rubio.

"The last thing we needed to do was be demanding and assertive. Not now," Kahn said. "I don't know how this is going to play out. There could be a lot of twists and turns. But I don't feel any self-imposed pressure that this needs to be resolved or concluded in any short fashion."

Rubio Says He's Leaning Towards Remaining In Spain

Jun 29, 2009 2:31 PM

Ricky Rubio remains confused about where he will be playing this season.

"I have more uncertainty about my future now than before the draft; every minute I'm in a different place," Rubio told the El Periodico newspaper of Barcelona in Monday's edition.

Rubio and his father were to quietly fly to Minneapolis last Saturday for conversations with Wolves president of basketball operations David Kahn.

"It's like being in a bag and not knowing what is going up or down," Rubio said. "For now, I think I may return to the ACB, but we'll see."

The 18-year-old point guard Ricky Rubio is receiving offers to play for clubs in Turkey and Real Madrid.

No progress has been made on Rubio's large buyout from his Spanish team.

It is believed that the guard would prefer to play in New York.  Donnie Walsh called his former protege David Kahn with an inquiry but the Wolves are attempting to hold on to Rubio.

Rubio Discussions Begin?

Jun 26, 2009 6:46 PM

After Ricky Rubio skipped his introductory press conference with the Wolves, Marca.com says that discussions on a possible trade to send Rubio to the Knicks are under way.

The report cites sign-and-trades of David Lee and Nate Robinson although such a deal could not be consummated until after the July moratorium is lifted.

Marca.com says it can confirm these negotiations to send Rubio to New York but there is no way to independently verify the report.

Marc Berman reports on the situation in his New York Post blog.

"The Knicks privately believe Rubio wants to be in New York and his agent Dan Fegan will work hard to make that happen," writes Berman. "The Knicks have intricate knowledge of Rubio's buyout contract; their European scout, Kevin Wilson, lives in Barcelona and is friends of the family."

Berman also says that the Knicks "believe" that Rubio's contract buyout, currently standing at $6.5 million, "can easily be worked out."

According to Berman's source, Rubio's camp "is hopeful the Knicks move in and strike a deal with the T'wolves."

Walsh Says He'll Call Kahn About Rubio

Jun 26, 2009 2:29 PM

Donnie Walsh says he'll call his former employee David Kahn about Ricky Rubio.

"I haven't spoken to Minnesota, I will," Walsh said. "I don't know what's going on there. He took a lot of point guards so I want to ask him, 'Why did you do that?' In a way that kind of helped us because that left us with two players that were, in our mind, really good players. I just want to find out."

Kahn gave a radio interview saying he has no intention of trading Rubio and that he chose another point guard, Jonny Flynn, because he was aware that Rubio could remain in Europe next season.

Rubio "was desperately hopeful he would somehow wind up with the Knicks and, apparently, is still holding out hope," writes Alan Hahn of Newsday.  "It is pretty clear that he would immediately report if the Knicks acquired his rights."
