Wolves' Kahn Quiet After Meeting With McHale

May 27, 2009 4:07 PM

Minnesota head of basketball operations David Kahn met with Kevin McHale on Tuesday night, but hasn't commented on the status of the coach.

Kahn was officially announced as the new top executive of the Timberwolves on Friday.

A decision on McHale's future might have to wait until next week with Kahn headed to Chicago for a three-day NBA draft combine.

"I think that Kevin and I need to have a very open-ended discussion," Kahn said during his introductory press conference last week. "And by the way, we might need to have more than one discussion; we might need to have two or three. Ultimately, it needs to be something where we need to figure out what we need to do, and he will have a say in that."

New executive David Kahn is expected to meet with McHale this week to determine whether or not he'll return to the club as head coach.

Penn Pulls Name Out Of Running For Wolves Job

May 18, 2009 3:39 PM

Portland Trail Blazers assistant general manager Tom Penn took his name out of the running for the position after receiving a promotion from the Blazers on Monday.

Dennis Lindsey and Randy Pfund have also taken their names out of the running for the post.

"It was a real tough call on his part," Warren LeGarie, Penn's agent, told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher, "but he's found a home in Portland and a niche within the organization where he thought there was more to contribute to an eventual championship. The friendships and relationships there were a siren call to return."

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported Friday that Penn had been offered the Wolves' job, with sources close to the process saying that the expectation in Portland was that Penn would accept.
