Bulls, Mavericks Tried For Harrison

Oct 11, 2008 9:28 PM

David Harrison chose Minnesota over offers from both Chicago and Dallas because he was impressed with Kevin McHale, the St. Paul Star-Tribune is reporting.

"McHale's a great man," Harrison said. "From our conversations, I can tell he cares a lot about the game and his players. He just gave me a general sense of well-being. I have to prove to the owners, the fans, my teammates that I am someone who can be depended upon to play both ends of the court and that I'll be ready for 82 games."

The Wolves signed the 7-foot former Pacer to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract.

In addition to interest from Minnesota, Chicago, and Dallas, it is believed that Harrison received offers from Europe.

Harrison: Off-Court Problems Are In The Past

Oct 11, 2008 9:56 AM

Newly signed Minnesota center David Harrison says that the off-court problems that plagued him in Indiana are a thing of the past.

"My agent has reiterated it many times, and I did, too," Harrison said. "But at the end of the day, it's my actions that will kind of dictate my future. It's a great situation to be in because I have a lot of confidence in my ability to follow the rules and be a player in the NBA."

Many believe that Harrison's off-court issues led the Pacers to allow him to walk in free agency.

His baggage in Indiana included a five-game suspension last season for violating the NBA's drug policy. In addition, he was involved in the infamous brawl at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

"I think that (brawl) was played on almost every continent at one point," he said. "I remember watching TV right after it happened, and it was on every station in Indiana at one point. That was a terrible situation, and thank God it's past us."

McCants, Wolves Ruin Thunder's Preseason Debut

Oct 9, 2008 5:15 AM

The Minnesota Timberwolves used a strong fourth quarter performance by Rashad McCants, who scored 13 of his 15 in the final quarter, to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in their preseason debut 88-82, the Associated Press is reporting.

"In the fourth quarter, coach puts the players on the floor he knows can sustain runs, play defense, put some points on the board," McCants said. "In the fourth quarter we did all those things. We made stops."

"We withstood their runs, and we were able to make one of our own and then were able to keep the lead. In the past, we weren't able to do those things. We'd get up and when we'd lose the lead we'd be finished for the rest of the game."

Damien Wilkins led the Thunder with 19 points, including a layup to tie the score at 78 with 3:04 to play.

Love Makes Good Impression With Wolves

Oct 6, 2008 9:54 AM

Rookie forward Kevin Love has made a good impression with the Timberwolves early on as he has showed tremendous promise in his first training camp.

"Kevin's really underrated right now," Wolves' guard Rashad McCants said. "I think they think of him as being undersized and one of those white boys that just has to go in there and bang."

"But Kevin has a very good finesse game where he can step out and handle the ball and shoot the 3. I'm very impressed."

Love averaged 17.5 points and 10.6 rebounds a game at UCLA in his freshmen season and was acquired by the Wolves in a seven-player, draft-night trade with Memphis that sent O.J. Mayo to the Grizzlies for Love and Mike Miller.
