Wes Duels For Power With Mav, Who Tries To Install Geffen As LAC Owner

Jun 28, 2010 6:31 PM

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports continues to bring new information to light about the power moves unfolding within the inner circle of LeBron James.

With James' free agency imminent, tension exists among the members of his crew, who are jockeying for position wherever the superstar plays next.

None more so than William Wesley who, writes Wojnarowski, wants James out of Cleveland and to a new city where his own control would expand.  Despite Wesley's efforts, the Cavaliers remain in the picture to retain James on a new contract.

"If LeBron leaves, Wes is going to get carte blanche wherever he signs," one source said. "He?s going to have the run of the place, and he doesn?t have that in Cleveland. He has access there, but Maverick Carter is the guy with the keys there. ?[Carter?s] much more influential, and would always be in Cleveland."

Maverick Carter and the other high school friends of James would seem to prefer him to remain in Cleveland where their spheres of influence are well established.

"No one cares about those guys walking around in Chicago or Miami or New York," one league executive told Wojnarowski.

Carter controls certain people in the media and plants the stories he wants reported.  Last week, Chris Broussard of ESPN quoted Carter in breaking news about James cancelling plans to visit the cities of the teams interested in signing him this summer.

Carter tried to put together a deal where David Geffen would buy a stake in the Clippers, then James would sign to play in Los Angeles.  But owner Donald Sterling is not interested in selling a share of the team.

Had the deal materialized, Carter would have been able to marginalize Wesley to a greater extent.

Wesley continues trying to position himself and is back urging the Knicks and Nets to deal for Chris Paul while selling the Bulls and Heat on clearing additional cap room.

Wherever James lands, Wesley will attempt to cash in from the team with payback in the form of favors for his clients.

Clippers Want To Have Coach By July 1

Jun 25, 2010 5:12 PM

The Clippers are still without a head coach, but that could change very soon.

Los Angeles president Andy Roeser says the team wants to have a coach in place by the start of free agency on July 1.

"By the time we get into free agency (which begins next Thursday), we should have that situation resolved," Roeser said. "We've narrowed it to a short list (of candidates) and we will be having more discussions about it shortly."

Dwane Casey, Mike Woodson and Vinny Del Negro are believed to be the top candidates.

Broussard later spoke with a rep from one of the clubs and was told it is not going to happen.

RealGM Note: This trade could not be completed on draft night due to the Clippers needing to use their cap space to absorb Deng's contract.

LeBron's Reps Refute Report About Ruling Out Cavs, Knicks

Jun 23, 2010 6:28 PM

According to a source that spoke with RealGM, representatives of LeBron James have denied the report from Jalen Rose on Wednesday which claimed that James was almost certain to leave the Cavaliers.

James' representatives insisted that no decision of any sort has been made and stated that the report from Rose is inaccurate.

On his Twitter page, Rose reported that James has all but decided to depart Cleveland and had whittled his likely destinations down to Chicago, Miami and the Clippers. The report omitted the Knicks as a candidate.
