Clippers Fans March In Streets For LeBron

May 28, 2010 7:20 AM

A group of Clippers fans took to the streets outside of the Staples Center on Thursday to show their love for LeBron James.

At least 75 fans in Clippers gear waved signs and chanted as they marched near the arena in the hours before Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals between the Suns and Lakers.

They chanted "We want the King!" and "L-B-J!"

The Clippers are among a handful of teams with enough salary cap room to sign James. They also have a strong supporting cast and a major media market in L.A.

A fan organized the march through the social networking site Facebook.

Griffin Cleared For All Basketball Activities

May 19, 2010 7:09 AM

Clippers forward Blake Griffin, who missed all of his rookie season with a stress fracture in his left kneecap, has been fully cleared for all basketball activities.

"Right now Blake is working out with no restrictions, at full speed, 100 percent to the point where [strength coach] Rich Williams asked me to talk to Blake about dialing it back a little bit," Clippers general manager Neil Olshey said.

Los Angeles drafted Griffin with the first overall pick last June.

"He's working out in May like we were ready to tip off in October. The only guy I feel bad for is the first one of his teammates that shows up and wants to play one-on-one with him," Olshey added.

Hughes Still Working For Clippers

May 11, 2010 11:48 PM

Four days after Kim Hughes was "relieved of his duties as interim head coach," he met with Clippers owner Donald Sterling who informed him that he still had a job with the Clippers until his contract is up on June 30.

Hughes has been reporting for work to the Clippers training facility in Playa Vista every day since. Like the Clippers other assistant coaches, he is reviewing game tape from this season, working out players and helping to evaluate potential free agents.

"Well, basically Mr. Sterling called me on Tuesday and told me there was a misunderstanding," Hughes explained. "I came back in on Wednesday and have been here ever since.

"We had a long talk, a very good talk, and he said he didn't want me leaving the Clippers family and I told him I never wanted to leave."

Hughes would've been paid through June 30, regardless.

Griffin Ready For Summer League, If Asked

May 10, 2010 4:11 PM

Clippers forward Blake Griffin, who missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury, is healthy enough to play this summer if the team requests he do so.

Taylor Griffin, Blake's older brother, told Jonathan Abrams of the New York Times as much on Sunday.

"Spoke to Taylor Griffin before the game and he said Blake is looking good and could play summer league if asked," Abrams posted on his Twitter page before Game 4 between the Suns and Spurs.

It was revealed on the eve of the 2009-10 season that Griffin had suffered a stress fracture in his left knee.

Then in January, tests revealed that the knee wasn't recovering properly and that the first overall pick would miss the entire season.

Clippers, Hornets Interested In Thibodeau

May 2, 2010 10:15 AM

The Clippers and Hornets are interested in interviewing Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau for their vacant head coaching position, according to the Boston Herald.

Both Los Angeles and New Orleans have asked Boston general manager Danny Ainge for permission to speak with Thibodeau, but no meetings have been scheduled.

The Celtics opened up their semifinal series with the Cavaliers on Saturday night.

The Philadelphia Daily News has also reported that the 76ers are once again interested in Thibodeau.

He interviewed with Philadelphia and Sacramento last offseason.

"He's a very good coach," Ainge said. "Everyone with a job opening should take the time to talk about Tom. Philadelphia interviewed him last year and had a good experience."
