In an interview with Larry King that will air on Friday, LeBron James said the Cavaliers have the inside track on retaining him as a free agent this summer.

King asked James, "Do you lean at all toward the place you know the best? I mean do they have an edge going in?"

"Oh, absolutely," James said.

King then asked James if he meant his home team, the Cavs.

"Absolutely," James answered.  "Because, you know, this city, these fans, I mean, have given me a lot in these seven years.

"And, you know, for me, it's comfortable. So I've got a lot of memories here. And - and so it does have an edge."

James' remarks are the first insight into which way he is leaning since Cleveland was eliminated from the playoffs nearly three weeks ago.

James also said he plans to talk with the other top free agents.

"It will be fun to get all the free agents together and figure out a way how we can make the league better."

James told King that his aim is to be on a team that can win more than one championship.

"I understand that me going down as one of the greats will not happen until I win a championship," he said. "I'm going to do what's best for me and my family."

James said he is not near a decision on free agency.

"I'm far from close," James said about his free agent decision.  "I've thought about it, but I haven't began to strategize exactly."

King asked James about the possibility of Cleveland being damaged economically if he leaves town.

"As far as saving the city economically, I can't get too involved," James said.  "I can't let that be a decision of mine or what I do with my future."

James thinks he and Chris Bosh or he and Dwyane Wade would improve any team's fortunes greatly.

"If you put me and Bosh on the same team, if you put me and Wade on the same team, a lot of teams would be much better."

James talked about whether location will be important to him.

"It's not always about the city. It's about winning."

Regarding the Clippers, James said:  "Some really nice, solid pieces that, you know, if they add a free agent, it could be a really good team."
