Jeff Green Would Prefer To Re-Sign With Wizards

Apr 23, 2019 10:50 AM

Jeff Green has played for six different teams over the past five seasons, but would like to remain with the Washington Wizards this offseason.

"I would love to come back," Green said. "Great set of guys on this team. I loved playing with Brad [Beal], John [Wall]."

Green grew up in Washington D.C. and enjoyed playing for his hometown team.

"Being in front of family every night was great for me. It allowed me to see my daughters more than a couple of times a year, which was great," he said.

"Being in a familiar setting from my Georgetown days was great. Being able to go up to Georgetown and watch the guys get better, it was great. [Those are] things I haven’t been able to do since being in the league."

Green signed with the Wizards last season for the veteran's minimum.

John Wall Has 'No Idea' If He Will Play Next Season

Apr 10, 2019 1:10 AM

John Wall didn't know if he would be ready to play next season as he recovers from a torn Achilles injury.

"I have no idea just yet. That's my goal. ... That's my mindset, where I'm pushing toward. But whenever the doctors clear me and get to that point, then I will know. I think it was finally at the point when it was weaker and it was going to give out,'' Wall said, "so I'm glad it gave out then instead of me being four months ahead in rehabbing," said Wall.

Wall also said he wouldn't mind if the Wizards picked a point guard in the upcoming draft.

"You have to do what's best for the team and make sure that we have pieces. And when I come back, he can be a great backup to me," Wall added with a smile.

Wizards Sign Jordan McRae To Standard NBA Contract

Apr 9, 2019 5:00 PM

The Washington Wizards have signed Jordan McRae to a standard NBA contract.

Originally signed to a two-way contact prior to the season, McRae has averaged 5.9 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 27 games for the Wizards and was named to the 2018-19 All-NBA G League First Team for his play with the Capital City Go-Go, Washington’s G League affiliate.

In 31 games with the Go-Go this season, McRae led the NBA G League in scoring at 30.4 points per game, becoming just the second qualified player to average over 30 points per game over the last 12 seasons in the league. He scored in double-figures in all 31 of his appearances (including a 54-point game), while also leading the league in 40-point (six) and 30-point (19) outings. McRae broke Antonio Blakeney’s record for consecutive 30-point games with a 10-game streak from January 15 to March 2 – a stretch where he averaged 37.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. In his 27 games with the Wizards, McRae scored in double figures seven times and scored at least 20 points twice, including a season-high 21 on March 27 at Phoenix.

Bulls Nearly Traded Jabari Parker To Lakers For Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Michael Beasley

Apr 9, 2019 11:16 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers had a tentative deal in place with the Chicago Bulls on the weekend of January 25th for Jabari Parker.

The Lakers were set to trade Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Michael Beasley in the deal for Parker.

But Caldwell-Pope had to approve any trade and had not yet signed off on the deal. The deal remained in limbo until January 28th when Davis requested a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Bulls realized the Lakers would not move forward with any trades until the Davis situation played itself and moved on. Chicago eventually traded Parker and Bobby Portis to the Washington Wizards for Otto Porter Jr.

Bradley Beal On Supermax: Money Is Not The Problem

Apr 8, 2019 8:50 AM

Bradley Beal could become supermax eligible this offseason if he is an All-NBA selection, but that may not secure his future with the Washington Wizards.

“My biggest concern, just like I tell everybody else, is just making sure that we’re going in the right direction. It’s easy to secure money. Money is not the problem,” Beal said. “I already have one max contract, and I can live off that and be cool. So, money is not the problem.”

The Wizards are between general managers after firing Ernie Grunfeld, which adds to the uncertainty of the situation.

“It’s, what are we gonna do here moving forward?” he said. “It starts with getting a new GM and building up our team this summer. I’ll definitely give it a lot of thought. It’s not an easy decision. It’s not a simple one, either. So, (it’s a) game of chess this summer.”

Beal told The Athletic at the end of March that he has “no idea” whether he would accept a super-max offer if the Wizards were to extend it to him.

“I try not to (think about it),” he said. “I’m not gonna be naïve to it. I know about it. But … I haven’t even gotten that far, because I need to figure out what we’re gonna do in this offseason, where we’re going, which direction we’re going.”

Ted Leonsis has told Beal he wants him to remain involved in the team’s offseason plans.

Despite the dismissal of Ernie Grunfeld, the Washington Wizards will not consider also firing Scott Brooks as head coach for next season.

Washington won 49 games in Brooks' first season as head coach before dropping to 43 wins in 17-18.
