Bradley Beal On Retiring As A Wizard: 'I'm All About Loyalty'

Feb 17, 2019 12:49 PM

Bradly Beal reaffirmed his loyalty to the Washington Wizards over All-Star weekend.

“If I can retire in this jersey, I will. I’m all about loyalty...I’m gonna be committed until I’m not, until I’m moved. That’s just my mindset. I’m gonna continue to lead and continue to do what I possibly can to help get us to that. I’m a firm believer that no matter who we have — I think I can do it with anybody. I feel like it’s possible with anybody as long as you have that work ethic and that dedication to get to that level," said Beal during a moderated Q&A session.

Beal added that he doesn't like having to recruit to build a super team, but the Warriors set the standard.

“I kinda hate it. I hate super teams. And that’s just me. … Like everybody, just get your own team and just try to win with what you’ve got. But it’s like you need five All-Stars to win, especially to beat Golden State at this point. Granted, that’s everybody’s measuring stick: Golden State. They’ve got four, five, six guys on their team that are probably All-Stars, so it speaks for (itself).”

Ted Leonsis Calls Sports Betting 'The Most Important New Business' For NBA

Feb 16, 2019 6:37 PM

Ted Leonsis and Vivek Ranadive have been vocal about the potential benefits that sports betting could provide the NBA, with Leonsis calling it "the most important new business" for the league.

"Right now, the people who go to casinos to gamble, it's a small community and it generates $8-10 billion a year in revenues and play. But there's probably $100 billion that's in the shadows by really sophisticated gamblers. And obviously the first step is we want to get that audience that's gaming illegally to come into the sunlight," said Leonsis.

The two have focused on real-time betting during games, which they call "predictive gaming". The Wizards have experimented with an alternate feed of Wizards games showing updated, real-time odds.

The Kings will introduce a lounge this season where premium seatholders can place bets on the score or player performance for virtual credit.

"The arena is the game console. And your phone is the controller for the game console. So we're only limited by our imagination," says Ranadive.

Bradley Beal Travel No-Call Causes Dispute Between League Executive, NBRA

Feb 13, 2019 10:42 AM

NBA vice president of referee development and training Monty McCutchen disagreed with the National Basketball Referees Association's interpretation of a non-travel call on Bradley Beal.

The call in question took place during the 4th quarter of the Wizards' loss to the Pistons on Monday. Beal took two steps following a gather step, lost control of the ball and took two more steps to get past Blake Griffin's contest, then passed the ball to Trevor Ariza.

"The offensive player gathers with his right foot on the ground. He then takes two legal steps, before losing control of the ball. After regaining possession, a player is allowed to regain his pivot foot and pass or shoot prior to that foot returning to the ground. This is legal", tweeted the NBRA.

McCutchen disputed what Beal did after losing control of the ball.

"Bradley Beal gathers the ball and takes two steps, but then loses control of the ball. Once he has lost control after taking the two steps, he must regain control and pass or shoot before taking another step in order to be legal. Since he does not regain control until another step, the play is a travel."

John Wall On Playing Through Injuries: 'It Kind Of Caught Up To Me'

Feb 10, 2019 1:06 PM

John Wall said his attempts at playing through injuries finally caught up to him after he recently ruptured his Achilles.

"I guess God is telling me something. To sit down and get yourself fully healthy. I've played through injuries my whole career. I know a lot of people who played through injuries and don't sit down. That's one thing I don't like to do. If something that's nagging or not broken, I want to play. I guess it kind of caught up to me," said Wall.

Wall was already out for the season after getting surgery to repair bone spurs in his heel. The Achilles rupture was discovered after a doctor was cleaning out an infection in the area.

"I understand I had an infection and getting off antibiotics, I felt like something wasn't going right. I slipped, but I don't think that's the main reason...my pain was still the same. I didn't have discomfort," added Wall.

Wall also stated that Bradley Beal should start in the All-Star Game.

"I felt like he should have been an All-Star starter, with the numbers he's put up and carrying this team throughout the year. You don't see too many other guards doing that other than probably James Harden."
