Paul Happy With Demps, Hornets Not Considering Trade Offers

Jul 29, 2010 4:35 PM

Chris Paul came away from his meeting with Dell Demps impressed with the Hornets' new GM and has no plans to force his way out of New Orleans.

"Anything can happen. We're right at the beginning of August, and training camp doesn't start until the beginning of October," a source close to Paul said. "They made the right choice hiring Dell. We knew the Spurs talked very highly of him, so that's all we could go off. But (Paul) said it was a great meeting."

The team is reportedly not willing to consider any trade offers for Paul.

"Chris never said anything about a trade," a source close to Paul said. "All he said is that he wants to win. He does so much in the community. He hasn't built those courts around (town) for nothing. Of course, he wants to be here."

Nets Will Perform 'Due Diligence' On Paul

Jul 28, 2010 4:35 PM

The Nets appear to have the pieces needed to acquire Chris Paul from the Hornets, but it remains to be seen if a trade is in the future.

For now, New Orleans isn't interested in trading Paul and New Jersey may not be willing to part with players like rookie Derrick Favors.

However, that doesn't mean new Nets general manager Billy King isn't going to at least put out a feeler for Paul.

"I'm not going to comment on that other than to say we will do our due diligence as we normally would," King said.

Paul Noncommittal On Future With Hornets

Jul 28, 2010 7:46 AM

Chris Paul took the opportunity to express how much he loves the city of New Orleans on Tuesday, but was far less committal about his future with the Hornets.

Paul said his meeting with Hornets general manager Dell Demps, head coach Monty Williams and team president Hugh Weber on Monday "went really well."

He even said he's "never been able to envision" continuing his NBA career anywhere but New Orleans.

However, when given the chance to say that he did not want to be traded, Paul said now was not the time.

"There will be a time," Paul said.

"I stay committed to the city of New Orleans," Paul said. "Everything else we talked about [in Monday's meeting with the club], like Mr. Demps said, we want to keep some of that stuff private."

NBA Issues Memo Warning Teams About Contact With Paul

Jul 27, 2010 6:36 PM

A memo was issued on Tuesday by the NBA to remind teams about tampering rules, specifically about Chris Paul.

ESPN.com learned that the memo spells out that "no team should be having communications with Chris Paul or his agent or representative about a potential trade for Paul that have not been authorized in advance by the New Orleans Hornets."

Paul's agent Leon Rose has reportedly been in contract with several teams.

The memo, sources said, also threatens penalties for any such communications that could potentially include "suspension of the offending person, prohibition of the offending team from hiring the person being tampered with, forfeiture of draft picks and individual and/or team fines of up to $5 million."

Report: Paul Still Wants To Be Traded

Jul 26, 2010 9:59 PM

Despite positive statements about his future in New Orleans following Monday's meeting with the team, Chris Paul is still seeking a way out, according to a source close to the point guard.

It at first appeared as though the Hornets had completely ended the Paul saga, but Ken Berger of CBS Sports reports that isn't the case.

"The telltale thing is that Chris Paul won't comment publicly other than what was released about it," said a person familiar with Paul's strategy.

"Leon Rose didn't come out and say, 'Chris is happy in New Orleans.' If he was happy, they would've said that. ... The only way they can get close to full value is to say, 'You guys can't make trade demands.' They're orchestrating this thing to likely move him."

A number of sources indicate that Paul and his new group of power brokers at Creative Artists Agency, led by Rose, continue to pull strings behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, the Hornets have been looking at the Magic, Bobcats and Nets as potential trade partners.

New Orleans appears focused on trading Paul to the Eastern Conference, while Paul wants to compete for a championship.

"Basically, he doesn't think they're good enough and he's put LeBron's people around him for a reason," the person familiar with Paul's strategy said. "And he doesn't want to wait two years and be 27 years old trying to get on a championship team. He wants to do it now."

The Hornets are standing firm on not letting Paul dictate which teams he'll like to be traded to.

Paul Comes Out Of Meeting With Positive Outlook For Hornets

Jul 26, 2010 1:53 PM

Chris Paul met with several members of the Hornets front office on Monday to discuss the state of the franchise and a possible trade.

"The meeting went well," wrote Paul in a statement.  "It was great to get an opportunity to sit down with Coach Williams, President Weber and our new General Manager Dell Demps. I expressed my desire to win and I like what they said about the direction that they want to take the team.  I have been a Hornet my entire career and I hope to represent the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana for many years to come."

Hornets Turning Away Trade Calls For Paul

Jul 26, 2010 8:00 AM

The Hornets have been turning away the latest series of calls from other teams on point guard Chris Paul, according to front-offices sources.

"They say they aren't moving him," one rival team executive said of New Orleans.

Paul is scheduled to meet with new coach Monty Williams and general manager Dell Demps on Monday.

Sources with knowledge of the situation say the Hornets are unlikely to change their stance, even if Paul personally tells the team that he wants to be traded.

Circumstances Make Paul To Magic Unlikely

Jul 25, 2010 6:53 PM

The Magic might be on Chris Paul's wish list, but they don't sound very confident of landing him in the near future.

Orlando isn't convinced that New Orleans will be forced into trading Paul and they aren't keen on taking on the contract of center Emeka Okafor.

"Much ado about nothing," is how Magic coach Stan Van Gundy Saturday described the reports of his team being linked to Paul.

"We are only involved in this story because someone said he wants to be traded and someone said he wants to come to Orlando," Van Gundy told FanHouse Sunday. "It's a New Orleans and Chris Paul story."

Magic general manager Otis Smith dismissed the reports as "rumors."

Paul To Issue Formal Trade Request Monday

Jul 25, 2010 6:41 PM

Chris Paul has yet to formally request that the Hornets trade him, but will do so during a scheduled meeting on Monday, according to a source.

The meeting will include new general manager Dell Demps and new coach Monty Williams.

New Orleans president Hugh Weber has maintained throughout the ordeal that the team has no plans to trade Paul.

However, Paul's agent, Leon Rose, continues to gauge interest from teams regarding his client.

Despite rumors to the contrary, Paul's camp claims that no leading destinations have been established.
