Jun 30, 2006 4:20 AM

While the Timberwolves were introducing their 2006 draft picks at Target Center on Thursday, current center Eddie Griffin was served with a civil suit accusing him of crashing his SUV into a parked car because he was drunk and watching a pornographic DVD, the St. Paul Pioneer Press is reporting.

The suit seeks $50,000 in compensatory damages and could be amended to include punitive damages, said Mike Padden, attorney for plaintiffs Jamal Hassuneh and Lindsey Hassuneh.

Garnett To Bulls Re-Surfaced?

Jun 28, 2006 9:23 AM

Is Kevin Garnett to Chicago being discussed once again?

According to the Daily Southtown, the outrageous athleticism of forward Tyrus Thomas, obtainable by the Bulls with the second overall pick in today's draft, has piqued the interest of the Timberwolves, among other teams.

One possibility has Thomas headed to the Bulls at the second overall pick. They then would send Thomas, center Tyson Chandler and forward Luol Deng to the Timberwolves in return for Garnett, the former Farragut Academy star. The deal could include other draft picks or lesser players.

Such a move would provide the Timberwolves with a young frontcourt to build around. In Garnett, the Bulls would have the superstar talent necessary to make a serious playoff run next spring, provided they're able to sign a free-agent center, such as Nene or Joel Przybilla, this summer.

Wolves coach Dwane Casey is not a fan of any deal involving Garnett, however.

"I don't even want to think about the scenario when Kevin's not here," Casey was quoted to have said earlier in the week. "Kevin being here is the most important thing and us building around him and getting things done in free agency to complement him. This guy's a superstar, and to even think about him not here. ... You'd have to put me in a straitjacket."

Garnett To Give Input On Draft And Free Agency Plans

Jun 27, 2006 4:23 AM

Dwane Casey has told Rick Alonzo of the Pioneer Press that Kevin Garnett has shared his opinions on what the club should do in both the draft and free agency.  Garnett hasn't given a full endorsement to a particular player in the draft, but has said that he would like the club to add veterans in order to make the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

Casey also reiterated that there are absolutely no plans to deal Garnett and that he has been in the Twin Cities area working out and even hosted Rashad McCants following his surgery.

"I don't even want to think about the scenario where Kevin's not here," Casey said. "Kevin being here is the most important thing, and us building around him and getting things done in free agency to complement him. This guy's a superstar, and to even think about him not being here... you'd have to put me in a straightjacket."

Casey Looking For Veterans As A Short-term Solution

Jun 27, 2006 2:30 AM

The Wolves may target the likes of Bobby Jackson, Voshon Lenard, Wesley Person, Calbert Cheaney as a short-term fix to the team's woes, according to a report in the St. Paul Pioneer Press.  The Wolves are hoping that one of the above guards will fill the void of injured guard Rashad McCants, who most likely will miss the entire 2006-07 season, and free the Wolves from having to use their draft pick, sixth overall, on a replacement for McCants.

"Hopefully we may have a short-term solution," Casey said. "But no way are we saying that Rashad's not coming back. The solution would be short-term rather than long-term."

Cautious Wolves Say McCants Might Miss Next Season

Jun 26, 2006 10:00 PM

Minnesota guard Rashad McCants may miss the entire 2006-07 sesaon as he recovers from microfracture surgery on his right knee, an injury similar to that suffered by Suns' star Amare Stoudemire, according to the Associated Press.

"That's the worst-case scenario," coach Dwane Casey said Monday. "That's a scenario that's there, that's real, and we have to be prepared for that. Hopefully it won't be for the whole season, but we're not going to put a timetable on it and rush him back."

McCants Out 4-6 Months After Knee Surgery

Jun 19, 2006 10:25 PM

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Rashad McCants will miss four to six months after microfracture surgery on his right knee according to the Associated Press.  It is the same injury that kept Phoenix star Amare Stoudemire out for most of this season.

Timberwolves orthopedic surgeon Dr. David Fischer performed the surgery in the Twin Cities on Friday, and the team made the announcement on Monday. Neither the team nor McCants, the Timberwolves' 2005 first-round draft pick, made the injury known before then.

Team spokesman Mike Cristaldi said McCants started to have soreness in the knee in May and it continued up until the surgery.

"It's an unfortunate situation because Rashad has been working really hard this offseason, and was looking forward to playing in the upcoming summer league games," Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale said in a statement issued by the team. "We expect Rashad to recover fully from the injury. He's a very talented young man, and we are going to make sure he is 100 percent healthy before he comes back."
