Najera Won't Be Suspended For Flagrant

Apr 27, 2010 2:14 PM

Mavericks forward Eduardo Najera was automatically ejected in Sunday's Game 4 loss to the Spurs after committing a Flagrant 2 foul on Manu Ginobili.

The NBA reviewed the play and decided that no further discipline was necessary.

A review is standard policy for a Flagrant 2, as is an automatic ejection.

Marion: Dallas Can Escape 3-1 Hole

Apr 26, 2010 3:58 PM

Mavericks forward Shawn Marion believes that the team can charge back from their 3-1 deficit against the Spurs.

Only eight teams (out of 189) in NBA history have managed to win a playoff series after trailing 3-1.

"I've been in this situation," Marion said. "It can be done.

"I don't see no fat lady."

Marion helped the Suns complete a comeback from a 3-1 deficit back in 2006.

Parker Takes Manu's Lead As Reserve

Apr 25, 2010 4:24 PM

Spurs guard Tony Parker has followed teammate Manu Ginobili's lead and adjusted to his role as a reserve.

Parker, who has struggled with injuries this season, is averaging 19 points per game against Dallas in the playoffs.

He has accepted his role coming off the bench as San Antonio has opted to start George Hill.

"If Manu could do it all those times," Parker said, "then I can."

Of the 110 playoff games Ginobili has played in, he's started only 35 of them.

Parker had been a starter for nine years.

Broken Nose Won't Sideline Ginobili

Apr 25, 2010 10:23 AM

Spurs guard Manu Ginobili will play in Game 4 against the Mavericks on Sunday despite suffering a nasal fracture on Friday night in Game 3.

Ginobili will not need surgery to repair the fracture.

He suffered the injury in the third quarter when he caught an accidental elbow from Dallas star Dirk Nowitzki.

"I had no doubt that he was going to return," Spurs forward Tim Duncan said. "He has a strong nose on him."

Dampier Upset Over Officiating In Game 3

Apr 24, 2010 12:32 PM

Mavericks center Erick Dampier is upset over the officiating in Game 3 of the team's game against the Spurs.

"When we play defense we're under a magnifying glass, but when we're on offense, there's no magnifying glasses," Dampier said.

"You've got to call it both ways. Dirk Nowitzki drives, he doesn't get fouled. They drive on the other end and they get the little ticky-tack fouls. So keep it consistent, that's all. Don't be one way or the other."

In Games 2 and 3, Dallas has been called for 43 fouls against just 31 for San Antonio.

"It's on us, too," Dampier said. "We've got to take the ball to the basket, make contact, draw the foul and go to the free-throw line."

Cuban: I Hate The Spurs

Apr 21, 2010 7:48 AM

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said on Tuesday that his team's rivalry with the Spurs is as rabid as ever.

"No, I mean I hate the Spurs. I have a hard time being civil to [Spurs owner] Peter Holt at the board of governors meetings and he has a hard time being civil to me even though we both like each other. It's what it represents," Cuban said.

"We can both be 0-80 and if those last two games are Spurs-Mavs, it's going to be like a playoff game because we dislike each other that much."

Dallas and San Antonio have faced off in the postseason in three of the last five years.

The Mavericks won last year's series 4-1 and they lead the current series 1-0 heading into Wednesday's Game 2.

"Both teams play basketball the right way, both really have a lot of respect for the other side," Cuban said. "The beauty of the first game and every game we play them is every possession counts. There's not like, 'OK, we'll put in the second unit.'

"Well, I take that back -- unless Pop says he's going for the best record and then rests everybody. But beyond that, every possession just feels like it's a punch in a heavyweight title fight. This doesn't feel like the first round of the playoffs, I guess is what I'm saying."

Popovich Won't Commit To Starting Guard

Apr 17, 2010 10:00 AM

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich won't say whether he'll start Tony Parker or George Hill at point guard on Sunday night against the Mavericks.

Parker came off the bench in the season's final six games as he returned from a broken hand. However, Hill aggravated a sprained right ankle on Wednesday night.

If Popovich decides Hill can play, then he has to pick a starter.

Parker said he's "definitely" fine with whatever role Popovich chooses for him.
