May 28, 2019 10:03 AM

The Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans have pursued Tyronn Lue for a lead assistant role, but he remains focused on a return to the NBA in a head coaching role.

Lue was fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers in October of last year.

Lue was offered the Los Angeles Lakers' coaching job, but was unable to agree to contract terms.

David Griffin hasn't given up on the possibility of retaining Anthony Davis with the New Orleans Pelicans long-term.

The Pelicans can offer Davis a supermax contract this offseason.

Griffin plans to meet with Davis in Los Angeles when agencies host predraft workouts.

“We’re very confident that we have a compelling situation for him here,” said Griffin.

Gayle Benson Strongly Denies Report Of Pelicans Refusing To Trade Anthony Davis To Lakers

May 17, 2019 4:18 PM

Gayle Benson has denied a suggestion from ESPN that she has given an edict for the New Orleans Pelicans not to trade Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Several media outlets aggregated comments from a podcast featuring Jackie MacMullan.

“We have been told, I think, through channels – most of us have heard this same scuttlebutt – that Gayle Benson has basically told [new general manager David Griffin], ‘To the Lakers, over my dead body,’” MacMullan said.

Benson laughed at the report and described it as “totally absurd,” and “completely untrue.”

Other reporters have made similar statements about the Lakers being ruled out by the Pelicans, but that position appears to be conjecture.
