Pelicans Sign James Ennis To 10-Day Contract

Mar 30, 2016 12:03 PM

The New Orleans Pelicans have signed James Ennis to a 10-day contract.

The Pelicans' continued injury issues will allow them to add another player.

Jrue Holiday, Alonzo Gee, Anthony Davis, Tyreke Evans, Quincy Pondexter and Eric Gordon are all out for the season.

Ennis is the 18th player on the Pelicans’ payroll, three more than the maximum allowed on a healthy NBA roster, but the league’s injury exception policy has allowed Dell Demps to add players to backfill the roster.

“We had more people in our picture than the Saints did in their team picture,” Alvin Gentry joked on Monday night.

Ennis played in 62 games with the Miami Heat last season, averaging 5 points, 2.8 rebounds and shooting 41 percent from the field in 17 minutes per game.

Dell Demps Second-Guessing Decision To Replace Monty Williams With Alvin Gentry

Mar 25, 2016 12:42 PM

The New Orleans Pelicans made the playoffs last year, but Dell Demps still fired Monty Williams and was hoping Alvin Gentry would take the team to the next level.

Gentry was coming off a successful season as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors and received considerable credit for their offense.

"Demps was unhappy with former coach Monty Williams, who did an incredible job with that team a year ago winning 46 games and reaching the playoffs. Williams was fired and Dell Demps hired Alvin Gentry as his coach. Sources tell me that he spent way too much of this year second-guessing his own hire of a head coach, often in very public ways within earshot of players, staff and even opponents.

Jazz Had Exploratory Talks At Deadline For Jrue Holiday, Jeff Teague

Mar 22, 2016 12:31 PM

The Utah Jazz explored trade talks at the deadline for both Jeff Teague and Jrue Holiday.

But the talks went nowhere as the asking price of the Atlanta Hawks and New Orleans Pelicans were considered too high for their veteran point guards.

The Jazz remain confident in Dante Exum, who has missed the entire 15-16 season with a torn ACL.

The Jazz could explore acquiring a veteran point guard again in June or July.

Utah ultimately traded for Shelvin Mack at the deadline.

Anthony Davis Done For Season, Likely To Lose $24M

Mar 20, 2016 7:28 PM

The New Orleans Pelicans have shut down Anthony Davis for the remainder of the season due to a sore left knee as well as a shoulder injury.

Davis will undergo surgery though the Pelicans haven't yet specified on which injury.

Davis' exit after 61 games played this season puts his chances of being voted onto one of three end-of-season All-NBA teams in danger, and thus earning an estimated $24 million extra for the maximum extension he signed with the Pelicans the past offseason.

The Pelicans are currently sixth in lottery odds between the Timberwolves, Kings and Knicks.

Pelicans Considering Shutting Down Anthony Davis

Mar 19, 2016 9:10 PM

The New Orleans Pelicans are considering shutting down Anthony Davis for the remainder of the season after he injured his left knee

Davis has also been dealing with a shoulder injury.

''Obviously he has an injury on his knee and something with his shoulder,'' Alvin Gentry said. ''I think they are going to talk to doctors this afternoon and we'll know a lot more then.''

The Pelicans have just 14 games remaining this season and are not in a position to challenge for a playoff spot.

''I wouldn't say no to that,'' Gentry said. ''I think we got to be smart collectively, along with him. Like I said, I think we'll know a lot more after they talk to doctors today."

Davis has not played a full 82-game season since entering the league.
