Kwame's D.C. Departure Not Certain

May 18, 2005 1:12 PM

Kwame Brown was suspended in the middle of the Wizards' playoff run, but that does not mean his days in D.C. are over.

"There is no saying that he won't be back with us," president of basketball operations Ernie Grunfeld said Tuesday. "We'll explore all of our options. We'll meet with him and his representatives and see where we are. There is a possibility that he will be back with us."

Brown was excused from the players' exit interviews this week with coach Eddie Jordan, who said a decision on Brown probably won't be made until the June 28 draft.

"He's a talented player -- 7-feet tall and athletic," Grunfeld said. "We'll sit down and evaluate the situation and see where we are with him."

Dixon And Blake Preparing To Leave Washington

May 17, 2005 2:24 AM

Juan Dixon and Steve Blake, two guards who helped lead the University of Maryland to the NCAA championship in 2002 and have played together as teammates with the Washington Wizards may have played their final games in the nation's capital.

"I'm going to look everywhere," said Blake, who averaged 5.3 points and 2.3 assists in two seasons. "I'm going to try to find a situation for myself that is going to benefit me, try to find a team where I know I can be successful and win games and go from here."

Blake is a restricted free-agent, meaning Washington can match any contract that he is offered.

Dixon is more likely to receive a contract and he is also an unrestricted free-agent.

"Those are two All-Stars, and I've learned a lot from those two guys the last couple of years," said Dixon, who was selected by the Wizards with the 17th pick overall in 2002. "I understand why my minutes have been inconsistent. Those guys can log big minutes. They're young, they're active and they're athletic. They're great players. Hopefully, wherever I go, if it's here or wherever, I want to play consistent minutes because I really think I can help someone win games."

Hughes Happy In Washington; Will Test Market However

May 15, 2005 2:32 PM

Washington Wizards guard and budding star Larry Hughes will soon be an unrestricted free agent.  And after an All-Star caliber year, he is drawing a lot of interest around the league.

He has been vague as to his plans for next year giving the standard response.

"I don't think that it will be a problem, if everything is what we think it is," Hughes said. "But you never know. I'm definitely doing what's best for myself. But I want to keep this winning thing going."

He has indicated that he likes Washington and would like to stay a Wizard if possible.

"I like the city," Hughes said. "I like what we've started. I like [president of basketball operations] Ernie [Grunfeld], [majority owner Abe] Pollin, everything that's going on. Everything is geared toward winning. Getting a lot of money to go to a losing situation, I can't see myself doing that."
