Delfino Unlikely To Sign With Raptors

Jul 31, 2009 7:25 AM

After acquiring Marco Belinelli from the Warriors, the Raptors appear unlikely to sign Carlos Delfino.

Toronto has roughly $5.1 million left to spend before they surpass the luxury tax threshold and were considering Delfino prior to the trade with Golden State.

The Raptors were believed to be mulling a one-year offer worth approximately $5 million for Delfino.

"The likelihood that he's going to sign here is less," Raptors president Bryan Colangelo said after the recent deal. "Not only is he going to be leaving some money on the table in Europe, but one of the things that was attractive about coming here was that he'd have ample opportunity to play and maybe start and that doesn't appear to be as open now."

?We?re looking forward to adding a veteran with Devean?s experience to our squad,? said General Manager Larry Riley.  ?He is obviously a proven winner and has been on several very successful teams during his career, which is something we feel is important when you look at the youth on our roster.  He is a versatile player and someone who we feel can contribute both on and off the court.?

Bosh Laughs At Idea Of Playing For Knicks

Jul 23, 2009 3:43 PM

Chris Bosh responded with laughter when asked by a fan on Wednesday if he would sign with the Knicks next summer.

Ismail Humet, a Knicks fan and student at Hofstra University, had a conversation with Bosh over ustream.com as the Raptors All-Star awarded Humet a pair of signed sneakers.

When Bosh told him that he had won the shoes, Humet replied, "I appreciate that, but you know what's a better gift? Come to the New York Knicks next season."

Bosh responded with quite a bit of laughter, but denied that he was chuckling at the Knicks specifically.

"I always laugh it off when people ask me to come to their cities," he wrote on his Twitter page Thursday. "I wasn't laughin' because it was the Knicks."

Jack Already Trying To Convince Bosh To Stay In Toronto

Jul 22, 2009 5:52 PM

A not so subtle benefit of Toronto signing Jarrett Jack is his relationship with Chris Bosh, whose signature Colangelo will try to get on a contract extension before the season starts.

?I hope so, I hope so,? Jack said when asked if he thought he would be a teammate of Bosh?s longer than he was at Georgia Tech, a union that lasted just one season as the all-star power forward left for the NBA after their freshman year. ?As soon as I got the call and found out Indiana wasn?t going to match [the Raptors? offer], I said let?s make the most of this year and hopefully we?ll try and get him around here for a few more years.?

?He?s already been working me,? said Bosh, in Toronto for some commercial appearances. ?It?s two birds with one stone ? he?s a good dude, a good locker-room guy, and he can ball. Any time you have that, it?s always a good thing.?

Raptors Officially Introduce Jack

Jul 21, 2009 4:06 PM

The Raptors have officially introduced Jarrett Jack after giving the restricted free-agent a four-year, $20 million contract.

Indiana opted not to match the offer sheet that Toronto signed Jack to on July 13, which paved the way for Jack to become the Raptors' latest addition.

"After having a breakout season last year for Indiana, we are very pleased to have Jarrett Jack join the Toronto Raptors organization," general manager Bryan Colangelo said in a statement. "Jarrett's size and strength, coupled with his playmaking instincts and ability to defend both guard positions make him a perfect addition to our roster."

Pacers Elect Not To Match Jack's Offer Sheet

Jul 20, 2009 4:15 PM

The Indiana Pacers announced Monday they will not match the offer sheet Toronto issued to restricted free agent guard Jarrett Jack.

?It was a very difficult decision because Jarrett proved last season what he can bring to a team,? said Pacers President of Basketball Larry Bird. ?We thank Jarrett for his contributions to the Pacers, both on and off the court, and wish him the best in Toronto.?

Jack was acquired by the Pacers in a five-player trade July, 9, 2008. In his one season with the Pacers, Jack played in all 82 games, averaging a career-high 13.1 points.
