Jose Calderon had surgery on his injured left ring finger Tuesday.
Calderon will need six to eight weeks to recover.
Jose Calderon will soon have the damaged ligament in his left ring finger repaired with surgery in Toronto.
Calderon previously indicated that a minor off-season operation would be necessary to patch up the damage of a rather gruesome dislocation of the digit in a March 25 game against Milwaukee.
The Raptors own the draft rights to Giorgos Printezis, who is playing for Olympiacos in the Euroleague Final Four this week.
With Toronto facing an uncertain offseason at the wing positions, Bryan Colangelo may try to entice Printezis to the NBA.
"There's definitely an edge to him," said Colangelo. "He could very well fill that (need for toughness)."
"Coming to the NBA is high on his list," said Alex Saratsis, Printezis's U.S. agent. "Obviously he'd have to give something up to come to the NBA, it's just a matter of how much are you willing to give up? Right now, it's impossible to say."
As the coaching carousel begins to heat up, it appears more and more likely that the Raptors will retain head coach Jay Triano.
Frank Zicarelli of the Toronto Sun wrote on Thursday morning that "Barring something completely unforeseen, the Raptors and Triano appear to be moving closer to a full-time relationship."
The Pistons have very clearly been interested in Chris Bosh and the Raptors have also shown interest in Tayshaun Prince, according to a report in the Detroit News.
While reporter Chris McCosky clearly writes that nobody is saying a deal centered around these two players will happen, he does write that Prince is no longer untouchable.
Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo says that he will certainly address the team's toughness this offseason.
"We are too nice, we are too nice as a group. Collectively, the group is too nice," Colangelo said in an interview with the Toronto Star on Monday.
"That's not to say you've got to go out and get bad guys (but) when you step on the court, you better have some fight. I think some of the guys were saying you better have some dog in you."
Colangelo, who also reiterated that he won't trade All-Star forward Chris Bosh, didn't single out any players.
"It becomes a matter of pride at some point," Colangelo said "It can't be me up here defending the roster all the time, it has to be them defending themselves. But in terms of what we're looking to do when we're addressing personnel this summer, we're going to be bringing in perhaps players with a different mentality.
"Again, some of the fiercest competitors are nice guys off the court or in the locker room, but when they step on that playing surface they become maniacal. And we want to find some of that."
While nothing is official, Brian Colangelo's glowing endorsement for Jay Triano has the interim head coach in a strong position to get the job permanently.
"He never stopped coaching, he never stopped preparing," Colangelo said of Triano. "I think it's safe to say, coming out of all of the player exit interviews, that to a man the players have a lot of respect for Jay, they respect his basketball acumen, they respect his professionalism, they respect his means of communication and they respect generally the way he leads this team."
"As much digging as I tried to do, I couldn't find anything negative about Jay and the job that he did and their feelings towards him. That says a lot, those characteristics that I just mentioned are obviously positive attributes of a coach and certainly would lend favorably towards Jay as a coach that has a very good shot at keeping the job."
Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo told the Associated Press that he will offer forward Chris Bosh a contract extension this summer.
Bosh can opt out of his contract at the end of next year.
"Chris is still the best player on this team and thus will remain the cornerstone of the franchise," Colangelo said Monday. "I will sit down and talk to him and his agent this summer about the possibility of signing an extension."
Bosh has two years and approximately $33 million remaining on his current contract, and Colangelo hopes that the uncertain economy will allow the team to retain the All-Star long-term.
The Raptors are very interested in re-signing forward Shawn Marion, but hope to sign-and-trade him if they can't retain him over the long-term.
"With his contract, it gives us flexibility," said Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo.
A sign-and-trade would allow Toronto to get another top player back in return for Marion, who they acquired from Miami at midseason.
"I've got to weigh every variation that I have. It's a big opportunity I have this summer," Marion said.
Chris Bosh has told reporters that he is happy to remain in Toronto and help turn things around after a 33 win season, the Associated Press is reporting.
"I'm not going to demand a trade this summer," Bosh said Thursday.
Bosh will be part of the coveted 2010 free agent class which will feature the likes of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Amare Stoudemire.
"I've been thinking about it," Bosh said. "I'm here right now, this is where I want to be, this is where I want to play basketball. I don't think I have to sit down really long and hard and just go on some kind of special trip to think about it. There's no pressure for me."
