Wright Rips Into Raptors For Lack Of Focus

Nov 28, 2009 9:34 AM

Raptors guard/forward Antoine Wright suggested that his teammates change their approach heading into Friday night's game against the Celtics.

Wright enlisted star Chris Bosh to help change the team's attitude after a 35-point loss to Charlotte earlier in the week.

He told Bosh, " 'Hey, you've got guys in here eating popcorn, joking around before the game. And we go out there and lose by 40. It's a direct result of what's going on before the game. Guys not coming in with the right mind frame.' "

Bosh agreed with Wright's assessment.

"Guys get ready in their own way, but I think as a team we could do a lot to get better focused," Bosh said. "Just staying on each other and making sure we're ready to play. It's something we'll talk about."

Rasheed: Floppers Are Ruining The NBA

Nov 28, 2009 9:00 AM

Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace is upset with what he believes is an epidemic of flopping in the NBA.

Wallace says he was duped into his fifth technical foul of the season by Raptors forward Hedo Turkoglu on Friday night.

"They've got to know that he's a [darn] flopper. That's all Turkododo do," Wallace said after Boston beat Toronto. "Flopping shouldn't get you nowhere. He acts like I shot him.

"That's not basketball, man. That's not defense. That's garbage, what it is. I'm glad I don't have too much of it left."

Commissioner David Stern has complained about flopping in the past, but the NBA has struggled to try and curtail it.

"This game is watered down, watered down with all that flopping. They're setting rules on us to the point where you're taunting if you dunk on somebody. Paul [Pierce] dunked it and then he didn't say nothing, but it's a tech," Wallace added.

Pierce was called for a technical after he dunked on Chris Bosh. Pierce hovered over Bosh as he remained on the ground, apparently injured.

Bosh Differentiates Himself From LeBron

Nov 27, 2009 1:41 PM

Even though Chris Bosh and LeBron James are both superstars and will possibly be free agents, the Raptors' forward differentiated himself from his peer in terms of how he deals with 2010.

"That's just the attention that LeBron's been getting for a while and that's expected," Bosh said. "It speaks a lot of him that somebody's able to handle all that and still play basketball at the same time. It's a part of our job. It's what makes us who we are and why we're here. I understand all of that.

"Some people are a different way. I guess he can do all that stuff, handle the questions, juggle all that. I don't like even thinking about it. I can't be thinking about it. If I'm playing a game, I want to be thinking about the game and that's it. It's the only way I can get the most out of myself."

Bosh was asked about the possibility of playing in his home state of Texas.

"I feel right like that now, that playing close to home could be a negative," Bosh said. But I can't say that I'll feel the same way later, next month, next summer, next year. I may change my mind. I just got to live for right now and help this team be as good as they can be and be as good a player as I can be and enjoy the city of Toronto."

Evans Seeing Improvement On Injured Foot

Nov 26, 2009 9:56 AM

Rggie Evans saw a foot specialist in Charlotte on Wednesday and, while he's not ready to get back on a court any time soon, there was some good news.

"(The doctor) looked at the X-rays that were taken when it first happened and after examining the foot today he could see quite a bit of improvement," Evans said.

The doctor, however, could give no firm timetable for when Evans might be able to return to the court.

Raptors Fall To 0-3 In Back-To-Backs, 18 More Remain On Schedule

Nov 26, 2009 9:31 AM

A tired Toronto team was soundly defeated by the Bobcats in Charlotte by the final score of a 116-81 one night after they beat the Pacers at home by a final score of 123-112.

The Raptors are now 0-3 in the second end of back-to-back sets this season have two games in two nights 18 more times this season.

"You can use the excuse of getting in at 2:30 (a.m.) and the fact that they've been sitting here after two days' practising, but at some point you've ... got to find the energy," said Jay Triano.

"I know it's tough, but this is the NBA.  We can't just mail in the back-to-backs."

The answer for what the Raptors can do differently to combat fatigue isn't inherently clear.

"Maybe we're going to have to throw in a bit of zone (defence) to try and save guys' legs that have played big minutes the night before," said Wright.

Said Triano: "I have no idea. I'm trying to figure it out. We usually let them sleep until noon. Maybe we wake them up and we practise.

"I don't know if that helps or hurts the cause.

"I'm just trying to figure out a way to see if we can be better on the back-to-back nights."

Turkoglu Believes Raptors' Unselfishness Will Make Them Great

Nov 25, 2009 11:10 AM

Using an unselfish brand of basketball including passing up open shots to get better ones, the Raptors scored 74 points in the first half on Tuesday.

"As much as we do that stuff, sharing the ball and making the extra pass, I think we're going to be a great team," said Hedo Turkoglu after Toronto rolled to a 123-112 victory over the Indiana Pacers at the Air Canada Centre.

"We told our guys, `If we keep moving the basketball side to side and we set screens for each other, we're going to get any shot we want,'" said coach Jay Triano after his squad came within five of the club record for points in a half. "And in the first half, we had a lot of guys who contributed and scored."

Meeting With Triano Helps Jack Settle In

Nov 24, 2009 7:52 AM

Raptors guard Jarrett Jack has picked up his play over the last week.

After signing a four-year, $20 million contract with Toronto in the offseason, Jack was worried about letting people down.

"It wasn't so much about letting myself down as letting everyone else down," Jack said of his struggles.

"I think that was some of the added pressure in the beginning. Also I wanted to perform, so I could prove to everyone that it shouldn't have taken this long. I should have got this contract a long time ago. So it was a little pressure from both ways that kind of hurt my play a little bit but I'm putting it all behind me."

A talk with coach Jay Triano on Friday morning appears to have relieved pressure.

"I think he was dwelling as a lot of guys do," Triano said. "It doesn't matter what level you're playing at. Some guys dwell on the fact that they are not making shots or not making plays. What we said to him was do all the little things. I think his energy level has been very good and he's found some confidence in the other parts of this game that has translated to his shot."

Jack is averaging 7.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game this season.

Nov 22, 2009 9:46 PM

In Vince Carter's first return to Toronto since being traded to the Magic, he scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half to pace Orlando to a 104-96 victory.

As has become routine when Carter returns to Toronto, he was passionately booed.

?I don?t know why they are booing me to be honest,? Carter said. ?But it?s all good. I enjoy playing in that atmosphere and I enjoy coming back here and playing and just being part of this.?

Bosh Puts Free Agency Talk On Hold

Nov 21, 2009 8:19 PM

Raptors forward Chris Bosh is going to stop discussing free agency.

"It's all a part of the business. I understand it's going to happen," Bosh said of his pending free agency. "I think LeBron kind of said it best. You have to be respectful of my teammates and make sure I focus on this season, no matter what happens."

Cavaliers forward LeBron James, who is also expected to hit the market in 2010, said last week that he will stop talking about free agency.

Bosh said Friday that he "doesn't know" how his situation will play out.

"I expect to keep it dormant like it's been," he said.
