Jose Alvarado, who suffered a right ankle sprain during an offseason workout, recently reported discomfort in his injured ankle during his return to play program.

Alvarado was re-evaluated on Monday by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, North Carolina. Alvarado will continue his rehabilitation program and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

The New Orleans Pelicans have claimed Matt Ryan off waivers. Ryan was waived from his two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, as part of their roster cutdown. The Pelicans will now have Ryan on a two-way deal.

Ryan has appeared in NBA games with the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and the Timberwolves. In 315 NBA minutes, Ryan has made 33 of 89 three-point attempts. He's also shot 39.8% from behind the arc over two G League seasons.

The New Orleans Pelicans waived Izaiah Brockington, Jalen Crutcher, Malcolm Hill, Trey Jemison and Tevian Jones. All five players were signed to Exhibit 10 contracts.

The group of five players is expected to join the Birmingham Squadron of the G League for the upcoming season.

The Pelicans roster now stands at 14 players signed to standard contracts and two players signed to two-way contracts. New Orleans has one of each type of roster spot available.

The New Orleans Pelicans exercised a third-year team option on Dyson Daniels and a fourth-year team option on Trey Murphy III.

Daniels averaged 3.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 59 games for the Pelicans last season.

Murphy averaged 10.5 points and 3.0 rebounds over two seasons with the team. 

The New Orleans Pelicans have signed guard Izaiah Brockington.

Brockington, 6-4, 200, appeared in two games last season with the Pelicans’ G League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron. In his senior season at Iowa State University (2021-22), Brockington earned All-Big 12 First Team honors after averaging 16.9 points and 6.8 rebounds, to go along with 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals. Over his four-year collegiate career, Brockington appeared in 125 games for St. Bonaventure, Penn State, and Iowa State, averaging 10.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.

In a corresponding move, New Orleans has waived Landers Nolley II.

The New Orleans Pelicans will be even more shorthanded to open the season than they already were. Naji Marshall suffered a bone bruise in his right knee during Saturday's preseason game. Marshall will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

The fourth-year forward joins Trey Murphy as out for the start of the regular season for the Pelicans. Murphy is recovering from a meniscus injury in his left knee.

The injuries to Murphy and Marshall could open up an opportunity for one of the team's training camp invites to make the regular season roster. New Orleans may also lean on two-way player Kaiser Gates and Dereon Seabron more than was expected.

The New Orleans Pelicans have signed guard Jalen Crutcher.

Crutcher, 6-2, 175, has appeared in 57 games (39 starts) over the past two seasons with the Hornets’ G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm, averaging 15.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 32.7 minutes per contest while shooting .430 from three-point range. Crutcher played four collegiate seasons at the University of Dayton, averaging 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 118 games and earning First-team All-Atlantic 10 honors in 2020 and 2021.

In a corresponding move, New Orleans has waived Liam Robbins.

New Orleans Pelicans center Liam Robbins was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right fibula, the team announced on Wednesday.

There is currently no timetable for Robbins' return. 

The New Orleans Pelicans signed Kaiser Gates to a two-year two-way contract, sources told Keith Smith of Spotrac.

The Pelicans also signed several players to training camp deals on Saturday, including Malcolm Hill, Trey Jemison, Tevian Jones, and Liam Robbins.
