The New Orleans Pelicans are bringing in Josh Smith, Chase Budinger and Martell Webster for workouts.

The Pelicans are thin on the wing with Solomon Hill out six to eight months.

New Orleans may start Jrue Holiday at shooting guard to mitigate their lack of depth on the wing.

"They have a workout there, with, I'm told, Josh Smith, Chase Budinger, Martell Webster," said Bobby Marks on Adrian Wojnarowski's podcast.

Anthony Davis Was Assured By Pelicans He Wouldn't Be Traded

Aug 10, 2017 10:51 AM

Anthony Davis was asked about his future with the New Orleans Pelicans by kids at a basketball camp this week.

"I get asked all types of random stuff," he said with smile. "The craziest (question) was if I was going to Boston."

Davis referenced the question as a joke but he also acknowledged the trade rumors this offseason were difficult to ignore.

Davis said that he spoke with his agent, Thaddeus Foucher, and Pelicans general manager Dell Demps about the rumors earlier in the offseason and he was assured he wouldn't be traded.

"I understand it's a business, but if I don't hear anything from Dell or my agent, I don't pay attention to it," said Davis.

"Once I first heard (the rumors), then I heard it again, then I heard it again, I just wanted to make sure. I found out it wasn't (true), and that was the beginning of the summer, so I haven't paid attention to it since."

Davis made it clear he remains happy with the Pelicans.

"I am happy here as a Pelican," he said. "I am happy here."

The Pelicans have missed the playoffs in each of the past two seasons.

"I don't really care what anybody says. We know what we're doing," Davis said. "Especially having an entire training camp with me, DeMarcus and Jrue (Holiday) and (Rajon) Rondo...We feel like we have a shot against anybody, that's our mindset coming in. We're not worrying about all the white noise and what other people are saying."

DeMarcus Cousins Likes Results Of Weight Loss

Aug 4, 2017 10:26 AM

DeMarcus Cousins has lost weight with a strict diet and a strong workout regimen this offseason.

“I just try to improve every season in some type of way. This was another area I thought I could improve in,” Cousins said.

Cousins was asked how much he weighs now.

“I don’t know. I really don’t know,” Cousins said. “I lost a lot of weight. I did my little training program in L.A. and I like the results. I’m good. I feel lighter on my feet. I’m moving a lot better than I have in previous years. It doesn’t hurt to wake up in the morning and the aches and pains have kind of gone away. It’s definitely benefited my body a lot more.”

“No one forced him to have weight loss," said Alvin Gentry. "Obviously, we’d like him in great shape. He called the guy up and got in the program that he is in right now. He’s been great at everything I’ve asked him to do in terms of being ready for next [season] and being ready to play. I think he is going to have a great year.”

Cousins said the Pelicans have a “very good chance to shock a lot of people.”

“We see that we can do something special regardless of the reports or what the so-called experts think about our team,” Cousins said. “We’re very confident. We think we have a chance to shock a lot of people. I’m excited. I wish it was starting tomorrow. I’m excited about this season.”
