Hakim Warrick To Play Both Forward Positions For Hornets

Aug 24, 2012 11:22 PM

The Hornets acquired Hakim Warrick in a deal with the Suns and expect the seven-year veteran to play both forward positions for them this season.

“Whatever I can do to get out on the floor, they said I can play either position,” Warrick said. “Just being able to play multiple positions that’s something I’ve worked hard to improve my game and be able to play a few minutes at the three.”

Warrick has been participating in offseason workouts at the Hornets practice facility.

“I think it’s good that a lot of us have got down here early to a good start on things,” Warrick said. “We’re getting used to each other and seeing how we like to play and what we’re comfortable of doing.”

Celtics, Spurs, Lakers, Warriors, Jazz Rated As Having Best Uniforms By Uni Watch

Aug 24, 2012 10:52 AM

Paul Lukas of Uni Watch ranks the uniforms of all 30 NBA teams, with the Celtics coming in first.

"The Rolling Stones, "Goodfellas," a Hershey's with almonds -- the classics are classic for a reason," writes Lukas about the Celtics. "That definitely applies to the Celtics' set. No goofy side panels, no extraneous bells or whistles -- just a perfect, vertically arched wordmark and a simple green-and-white color scheme. They rank atop this list despite sometimes wearing that black-trimmed alternate."

The Spurs, Lakers, Warriors and Jazz comprise the remainder of the top-five.

"The Raiders aren't the only team that knows how to wear silver and black," writes Lukas in regards to the Spurs. "In addition to the killer colors, the Spurs are also among the few NBA teams that have successfully incorporated a graphic image into their chest typography -- a small element that goes a long way."

Anthony Davis Increased Confidence During Olympic Experience

Aug 20, 2012 6:44 PM

Anthony Davis didn't receive significant playing time as a member of the United States' Olympic team, but the experience gained figures to make a significant impact on his development.

“Those guys on the Olympic team treated me like I belonged and it boosted my confidence,” Davis said. “When I got in games, I felt more confidence. They talked to me and told me what to do, so it definitely was great.”

Davis averaged 4.3 points in seven games and also held his own at practice.

“A lot of them shared their perspective on the game and the whole team took me under their wings and showed me the ropes,” Davis said.

“I think for Anthony getting to play the minutes the way he did is something nobody expected,” said Monty Williams.

“The guys on that team, I could tell when I was there they looked at him a little bit different than you look at most college guys. But I think they recognize that this is a guy that we’re going have to deal with. This guy is going to prevent us from winning games and that demands respect.”

NBA Exec: Noel Falls Short In Comparison To Davis

Aug 6, 2012 10:34 AM

Anthony Davis’ length, athleticism and shot-blocking talents have been used as points of comparison for incoming Kentucky recruit Nerlens Noel.

One NBA general manager examined the merits of that comparison.

"I'm not that high on him," the talent evaluator said after watching Noel run with other prospects during a break in play at the Adidas Nations tournament. "He can block shots, but I don't put him in the class of Davis. And on offense, what can he do? While Davis was sort of restricted for most of his season at Kentucky, you could see the level of skill. I don't see that with Noel ... at least not yet."

Noel is considered a candidate for an early spot in next year's draft lottery.

Anthony Davis Learning From Olympic Teammates

Aug 3, 2012 10:47 AM

Anthony Davis said his fellow Olympic teammates are helping him prepare for life in the NBA.

“There are a lot of great players,” he said. “I’m getting a lot of experience, they’re teaching me about the game.

“They’ve been giving me defensive tips, I’ve been learning how to play ball screens offensively, how to tip the ball out on rebounds if you can’t control it. It’s been a collective effort. All of the guys teach me different things.”

Anthony intends to use what he has learned to benefit the Hornets.

“It’s definitely going to help me throughout my career,” he said. “I’m learning early what these guys do.”
