Davis' Family Disappointed Over Lottery Results

May 31, 2012 11:05 PM

Anthony Davis’ family wanted him to land with Michael Jordan's Bobcats.

"A lot of disappointment inside my family," said Anthony. "My mom wanted me to go to to Charlotte. I have a lot of good friends in Charlotte. At the same time, it wasn't my call. A lot of guys are disappointed but they have to move on and make the best out of New Orleans."

Davis, who was raised in Chicago, grew up rooting for Jordan and the Bulls.

Monty Willliams Favors Current Lottery System, Won't Tank For High Pick

May 30, 2012 10:20 AM

Monty Williams believes that the current lottery system is the best method to determine the draft order.

Williams said the Hornets have no intention of ever trying to tank their way to a high pick.

“If it was just based on the order of records, I think you’d see more of the stuff we saw down the stretch, of teams just tanking games and guys sitting out and not playing hard and things of that nature,” said Williams, who’ll be attending a lottery for the first time. “That was a bit disappointing, kind of watching that whole thing.

“The one thing people forget is that players know when you’re doing that. We weren’t going to do that. That’s the last message I wanted to send to our guys, that we were trying to tank games. I feel with doing things the right way, at least we can sleep at night. It may not always work out for you, but at least you can sleep at night.”

Williams would prefer to improve through hard work and attention to detail.

“You have to work for your breaks,” Williams said. “I certainly believe working makes your breaks. That that’s what we’ve been doing. Our young guys have been in the gym, going through a minicamp the past two weeks. That’s the strategy we’ve put in place.

“You can’t control those ping pong balls. At the end of the day we want to be able to put a good team on the floor that some day will be playing in the conference finals. And if things go well (tonight), that’s another step in the right direction.”

Monty Williams Wants Hornets To Add Size, Doesn't Think Draft Is Deep With Talent

May 21, 2012 10:24 AM

Monty Williams indicated the Hornets need to add size during the offseason.

New Orleans is slotted fourth and tenth in the upcoming draft lottery.

“I could foresee us drafting a big, but there are a couple of guards in this draft that are pretty good with a high upside,” Williams said Sunday. “It’s one of those situations where the pick will dictate all of that, and (General Manager) Dell (Demps) may have a situation where he may want to trade the pick to get a veteran player. We’re still not sure. We’ve got to find out where we’re going to draft.”

Williams has tagged this as a weak draft, with little star power at the top of the board.

"I don’t see this deep draft everybody is talking about,’’ Williams said. "I think there are a few players at the top that are really good that can be good players. But I don’t see any Carmelos or LeBrons.’

"I don’t think you’re going to find a (Manu) Ginobili at 52. The last few weeks I’ve had a chance to look at all these young guys on tape and I’m not jaded by the hoopla as everybody else is. I think there are good players, but I don’t see this deep draft.’’
