The transition from star to role player has been a rough one so far for Shabazz Muhammad.

Muhammad averaged 8.5 points on 36.5 shooting over six games at the Las Vegas summer league.

"He's struggling, because for the first time in his career, he's trying to play within a system where he's not the main focus in the system," Flip Saunders said during Minnesota's final summer league game. "Our main focus when we brought him out here, I didn't want him to take 25 shots a game. I wanted him to be in a situation knowing that when he plays with our main guys, he's going to be a guy that's not gonna get a lot of opportunities, so he's got to play off the ball. He's got to play a team-type concept."

Muhammad is working to adjust to the longer NBA three-point distance.

"I really been practicing on it," said Muhammad, who shot 37.7 percent from three in college and 38.9 at summer league. "I think the strength is maturing and coming along as a player. The first time I started shooting the NBA 3, I was like 'this is really far back.' Now, I’m shooting and I think it’s the college 3 again."

Flip Saunders will travel to New York early next week to talk with Nikola Pekovic’s agent, Jeff Schwartz, in hopes of finalizing a deal for the restricted free agent.

Glen Taylor confirmed the Timberwolves have extended an offer to Pekovic.

“We made an offer and they made a counteroffer,” Taylor said. “And they decided they should get together and talk about it in person rather than over the phone.”

Pekovic averaged 16.3 points and 8.8 rebounds last season for the Timberwolves.

Kevin Durant and Kevin Love have confirmed that they will play in next year's FIBA World Cup in Spain.

"I told Kevin (Durant) yesterday I was committed," Love said. "He committed last night to (Coach K) and the team, so it's just a cool thing."

Jerry Colangelo told Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! that he hasn't asked LeBron James to play in the event and doesn't expect him to participate, but will ask for the Olympics in 2016.

The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Portland Trail Blazers by a final score of 72-66 in Summer League play on Friday.

Lorenzo Brown led the Wolves with 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Shabazz Muhammad had six points on 2-for-8 shooting.

Terrel Harris had a game-high 25 points for the Blazers.

The NBA D-League Select defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves by a final score of 83-75 in Summer League play on Thursday.

Brian Butch led the D-League with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Ron Howard added 14 points with 12 of those points coming at the line.

Shabazz Muhammad had just six points on 2-for-8 shooting.

Glen Taylor expects the Minnesota Timberwolves to reach a free agent agreement with Nikola Pekovic.

The Timberwolves made Pekovic an offer -- believed to be a four-year deal worth as much as $50 million -- and Taylor said Pekovic's camp made a counterproposal.

"My sense is, I think we both know he's going to be playing for our team next year," Taylor said. "I think we're just dealing with an element time of here. I would tell you I'm very positive that he'll play for our team. What we have left isn't something that can't be resolved. There doesn't seem to be a lot of pressure on us or him to get it done. A meet has been set up in the future.

"I'm confident it'll get done. I've been through so many of things. You say, `It's just money, Glen.' I think we'll get it done. He's an important part of our team. He wants to be back and we want him here."

Pekovic averaged 16.3 points and 8.8 rebounds last season for the Timberwolves.

The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Sacramento Kings by a final score of 92-54 in Summer League play on Wednesday.

Shabazz Muhammad scored 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting and four rebounds. Demetri McCamey had 15 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Ben McLemore had one point on 0-for-8 shooting and five rebounds. Ray McCallum had eight points on 3-for-11 shooting.

The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Miami Heat by a final score of 80-71 in Summer League play on Tuesday.

Shabazz Muhammad scored seven points on 3-for-10 shooting. Brandon Paul had 13 points in 22 minutes.

Jarvis Varnado led the Heat with eight points, six rebounds and five blocks.

The Phoenix Suns defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves by a final score of 91-89 in Summer League play on Monday.

Markieff Morris led the Suns with 22 points and six rebounds. Kendall Marshall scored 13 points with six assists.

Robbie Hummel led the Wolves with 18 points and seven rebounds. Shabazz Muhammad scored eight points on 3-for-9 shooting.

The D-League Select defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves by a final score of 83-81 in Summer League play on Saturday.

Stefhon Hannah led the D-League with 23 points.
