Kevin Garnett almost single-handedly snapped the Phoenix Suns' 17-game winning streak, scoring 44 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in Minnesota's 121-112 victory on Monday night.
The mother of four of former NBA star Latrell Sprewell's children sued him for $200 million Monday, alleging Sprewell broke their long-term cohabitation deal and roughed her up last month in their Westchester County home.
Candace Cabbil brought the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, saying Sprewell recently ended the arrangement that developed after they met in 1989 when both attended the University of Alabama.
According to Sam Smith of the Chicago Tribune, the conventional wisdom around the NBA is that Kevin Garnett and the Wolves will come to an accord on a trade over the summer if the club doesn't make the playoffs or win a series.
A friend of Garnett said the idea of being traded in the middle of the season is unattractive to him.
Glen Taylor has a handshake agreement with Kevin McHale to run the basketball operations of the club, but despite his long tenure, it isn't an agreement that will run forever.
"He's never been on a leash," Taylor said. "I hope he stays. Nothing has changed between Kevin and I. You know we're very close."
"Let's wait and see," Taylor said when asked if McHale will return next season. "These things (firing coach Dwane Casey on Tuesday) are tough on Kevin. This isn't something he likes to do."
Zach Randolph had 22 points, 15 rebounds and two key free throws at the end as the Blazers spoiled Randy Wittman's first game as Minnesota's interim head coach with a 101-98 overtime victory over the Timberwolves on Wednesday night.
Minnesota Timberwolves coach Dwane Casey was fired Tuesday, according to a broadcast report.
ESPNEWS reported that Casey has been replaced by assistant Randy Wittman. His tenure with the team lasted less than 1 1/2 seasons.
Nuggets coach George Karl did the math and it didn't add up: Denver star Carmelo Anthony drew a 15-game suspension for his fight, Minnesota's Kevin Garnett got a one-game penalty for another brawl.
"Obviously, if you land the punch it's 14 games," Karl said Monday. "Throwing one is one (game) and hitting (someone) is 14. That's the equation I read. I'm just a simple guy. I couldn't pass calculus."
Anthony was set to return Monday night when Memphis visited Denver. He had been out since throwing a punch during a wild brawl against the New York Knicks on Dec. 16.
Kevin Garnett was suspended one game by the NBA on Sunday for throwing a punch at Detroit's Antonio McDyess.
Garnett won't play Sunday night when Minnesota visits the Phoenix Suns. He leads the Timberwolves with 22.2 points and 12.8 rebounds per game.
Ricky Davis was suspended by the Timberwolves for leaving the bench and going back to the locker room during Friday's loss to the Pistons.
"You can't have that happen," said Kevin McHale. "There are certain things that are out of bounds."
