LeBron Was Disappointed By Miami's Decision To Amnesty Mike Miller

Sep 30, 2014 1:11 PM

The decision by the Miami Heat in the 2013 offseason to amnesty Mike Miller drew the ire of LeBron James.

The move saved the Heat money while taking away a key locker room guy and rotation player with big game experience.

"LeBron thought it was an unnecessary change," Miller told Northeast Ohio Media Group.

Miller signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason.

"I'm not saying I would have been a difference-maker," Miller said. "San Antonio was unbelievable last year and there are a lot of things that go into a season, but it was difficult for LeBron.

"It was difficult for all of us. It was difficult for me. I had to uproot my family and move again. It was tough. I think he was disappointed because he understands legacies and he understands what he wants to do in life. That's what makes him special."

Luol Deng Forgives Danny Ferry For Racial Comments

Sep 27, 2014 3:04 PM

Luol Deng met the media on Friday and said he wants to move on from the unfortunate situation of Danny Ferry's racial remarks directed toward him during free agency.

"I think one of the hardest things to do as a human being and something that we should do more often is forgive," Deng said. "I do forgive Danny. It's not something I want to hold onto for the rest of my career or for the rest of my life.

"When it first happened, I didn't think I was involved in it at all when the first letter came out. The next day, I had phone calls and emails and text messages. I kind of tried to sit back and see what was really going on. I didn't want to jump into anything. I believe that he's really sorry for what he said. Whether it came from him or whatever it came from, I think the main focus really should be how we move forward, what are we going to do about it instead of just pointing fingers and trying to go after each other and be mad at each other."

Ferry said Deng, who is from Sudan, had "some African in him" while reading a scouting report with team personnel during a teleconference in the summer. Deng and Ferry have since spoken to each other about the comments.

"Everything happens for a reason and we can turn a situation of something so negative and something bad … and really turn it into something positive," Deng said. "… We could turn this positive where people could benefit from it."

LeBron Admits 'Greater Chance' He Stayed With Heat If They Won 13-14 Championship

Sep 25, 2014 4:47 PM

LeBron James admitted in an interview with Rachel Nichols on CNN's "Unguarded" that he was more likely to stay with the Miami Heat if they had won the 2014 NBA title against the San Antonio Spurs.

James left the Heat to rejoin the Cleveland Cavaliers in July's free agency.

"It's a greater chance, for sure," James said. "It would be hard to leave back-to-back-to-back championships and try to go for four. But obviously you really can't live and think of what may have happened. I've always been a person kind of live in the moment."

James also discussed the conversation he had with Dan Gilbert before re-signing with Cleveland.

"It was a straightforward conversation. It was no beating around the bush," James said. "He basically said, 'No matter what decision you make, we wanted to clear the air to where if we see each other in public or we see each other wherever, if I'm competing against you, we can always shake each other's hands and look at the fun times that we had instead of focusing on the one night."

Bosh Spent Offseason Refreshing Post Game For Increased Inside Presence

Sep 23, 2014 11:26 PM

Chris Bosh admitted late last season that he preferred not to play inside as much as he did with the Toronto Raptors, but he refreshed his interior game during the offseason.

“It’s just like riding a bike,” Bosh said. “You never forget. I have a lot of experience, years and years. Even though I didn’t get much experience, I always worked on it because I knew I was going to keep it sharp.”

Bosh is now the highest-paid player on the Miami Heat after signing a five-year, $118 million deal.

“Just the demand night in and night out,” Bosh said. “Being in that position to where you’re expected to have a certain amount of output, to play a certain amount of minutes and score points and get a certain amount of rebounds, it’s going to be tough. But I enjoy that challenge. I’ve always enjoyed it. It’s just what comes natural to me. I’m excited. I’m looking forward to everything.”

“They didn’t need me to do that [play in the post]. (Wade) and LeBron were our post guys. I kind of really used to those tools that I gained and put it all together.”

Mario Chalmers Didn't Expect Heat To Re-Sign Him

Sep 15, 2014 12:50 PM

After having a poor performance in the NBA Finals, Mario Chalmers did not expect to return to the Miami Heat as a free agent.

"I didn't think I'd be back," Chalmers said. "I didn't think that at all. I didn't even think the Heat would want me back, to be honest. That's how I felt like my playoff performance was, that they didn't want me back, they wanted to go another direction. So that was in my mind, too, but I was like, if it happens, it happens."

Chalmers received some encouragement from Heat general manager AndyElisburg, who called Chalmers in free agency to tell him that the team still had an interest in retaining him.

"I at least knew that one team wanted me right now," Chalmers said. "So that was a good thing."

Heat To 'Tweak' System, Gamble Less On Defense

Sep 15, 2014 12:10 PM

The Miami Heat lost LeBron James in the offseason and have also made some key changes to their coaching staff, which will result in a vastly different identity.

“You will see some tweaks in how we play,” said a Heat official.

Miami's gambling defense, which left open too many three-point shooters, needs addressing.

“We can’t just show up and expect to win it in the fourth quarter any more,” said the official.
