Wade: Maintenance Program Was 'Close To Almost Genius'

Oct 27, 2014 1:31 PM

Dwyane Wade played in just 54 regular season games as part of a designed maintenance program by the Miami Heat.

Wade will need to play more games this season in order for the Heat to remain a playoff team.

Wade started out the playoffs well, but ultimately faded against the San Antonio Spurs in The Finals.

"We tried something different last year," Wade said. "At one point it was close to almost genius. And then I didn't have a great Finals performance, and our team didn't have a great Finals performance, and it was the worst thing to ever happen. But this is a different year. Every year is different. My approach and my responsibility is a little different. I understand that, and he understands that as well ... my goal is to be available as much as possible."

Said Erik Spoelstra: "We don't have a specific plan, because we're going day to day. The plan is to be available. I'm not going through the calendar. We'll get to them when we feel we need them."

Bosh: Only Volume Of Touches This Season Similar To Time With Raptors

Oct 27, 2014 1:28 PM

Chris Bosh is prepared to again play a bigger role, similar to his initial seasons in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors.

But Bosh sees the situation with the Miami Heat being considering different.

"The volume of touches, that's the only similarities" to Toronto, he said. "Everything else is totally different. It's getting to be a little while ago. I always get the question: 'You going to be like you were in Toronto?' No, I'm not. I consider myself a much better player than I was then. I'm a better leader. I'm taking the experiences I've had over the past years and trying to bring all that over to my new role."

Bosh accepted a more complementary role during his first four seasons with the Heat due to the presence of LeBron James.

"I knew what it was as soon as I agreed," Bosh said. "I've been in this league 10-plus years now, and I consider myself a decently smart person. Yeah, I know what it means. And as far as like my role with this team, and what they're going to demand of me is a lot more. I understand that. I understood that back in July. It's a work in progress for me."

Chris Bosh Admits Money Was Factor In Choosing Heat Over Rockets

Oct 20, 2014 8:14 PM

Chris Bosh was close to signing a four-year, $88 million deal with the Houston Rockets, but ultimately decided to remain with the Miami Heat on a five-year, $118 million contract.

Bosh would have returned to his home state of Texas to form a Big 3 with Dwight Howard and James Harden.

"I still had to finish conversations with the Heat," Bosh said of those hectic hours on July 11, when he handled his negotiations by phone from Africa, where he was on a vacation and promotional tour. "Everybody was aware, all parties were aware. It was always continuing conversations. I never made any commitments. I never wanted to put anybody in the position to make them feel like I said something and I reneged on the whole thing. So I just kept it open.

"LeBron (James) made his choice and then that kind of cleared things up, as far as negotiations are concerned."

Bosh had spoken with management and players on the Rockets.

"I talked to everybody," he said. "I like to get a feel for everybody, feel them out, see what they're thinking and just hear it from them."

Bosh admits that money was a factor in his decision to stay with the Heat.

"It's always business," he said. "Nothing is ever personal. I think 100 percent of those dudes would have taken the deal I took.

"It's not always about money," Bosh said. "But you do want your full market value. If you work your butt off to get to a certain point, you want to be rewarded for that."

Bosh: Transition Playing With LeBron Will Be Difficult For Love

Oct 10, 2014 12:16 PM

Chris Bosh went from first option with the Toronto Raptors to third option with the Miami Heat, which was a difficult transition as an offensive player.

Kevin Love will undergo a similar transition this season in joining LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"Yeah, it's a lot more difficult taking a step back, because you're used to doing something a certain way and getting looks a certain way," Bosh said recently. "And then it's like, well, no, for the benefit of the team, you have to get it here.

"So even if you do like the left block, the volume of the left block is going to be different. Now you have to make those moves count. So with me, it was like a chess game. I'm doing this move and thinking about the next move and trying to stay five moves ahead. You're not getting it as much. If you got one or two a game, it's a lot different."

Love averaged 26.1 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in his final season with the Wolves, which compares to Bosh's 24.0 points and 10.8 rebounds with the Raptors in 09-10.

"It's going to be very difficult for him," Bosh said of Love's new task. "Even if I was in his corner and I was able to tell him what to expect and what to do, it still doesn't make any difference. You still have to go through things, you still have to figure out things on your own. It's extremely difficult and extremely frustrating. He's going to have to deal with that."

LeBron Felt 'Uncomfortable' Being In Same Room As Riley At Wade's Wedding

Oct 9, 2014 1:19 PM

LeBron James told friends that he felt uncomfortable having to share the room with Pat Riley during Dwyane Wade's wedding over the summer.

James likely had similar feelings with Micky Arison and Erik Spoelstra in the room as well.

James flew to Wade's wedding in August to support his former teammate, despite many of Miami's front office and players in attendance and his departure to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bosh, LeBron Haven't Spoken Since Departure

Oct 8, 2014 12:33 PM

Chris Bosh hasn't spoken with LeBron James since the offseason in which the latter left the Miami Heat to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Heat and Cavaliers meet on Saturday in Brazil.

"Yeah ... I don't know."

"I'm in the mode where I'm trying to lead my team, help these guys out around here," he said.

"If guys aren't in this locker room, I don't have much time for them -- if any."

The Heat's first "real" game against James and the Cavaliers is scheduled for Christmas Day.

Bosh said he's focused on his teammates in the present.

"Everybody's going to hype it up, and it's going to be a big deal,'' Bosh said. "But for us, it's just another opportunity to get better. We know everything that's surrounding the situation, and it is what it is. As far as we're concerned, this is our team, this is what we're trying to build toward, the past is the past, we're moving on, and it's good to get this out of the way.''
