Joel Anthony Hoping To Retire With Heat

Aug 31, 2013 11:28 PM

Joel Anthony has two seasons left on his contract with the Miami Heat, and the veteran center is hoping to retire with the organization that brought him into the NBA in 2007.

"Of course I want to retire with Miami," Anthony said. "It's the team that gave me the opportunity, the team that I've played my six years on in the NBA and there's no reason for me to leave."

Anthony has been part of back-to-back titles with the Heat.

"It's not an issue of whether you're going to play or get minutes, the most important thing is that we went out to win a championship," Anthony said. "That's my goal. At the start of the season I'm not thinking if I'm going to get minutes or not, instead it's about getting that title. As that goal was reached, there's no reason to go anywhere else."

Anthony averaged 1.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and less than a block in 62 games last season.

Dwyane Wade Didn't Recruit Free Agents To Heat This Offseason

Aug 25, 2013 11:38 AM

Dwyane Wade has not spent time recruiting free agents to the Miami Heat this offseason.

"I left that all to them," Wade said of the front office, aware of the luxury-tax limitations of the Heat's efforts. "I got away, understanding that we have little that we can do. And Pat Riley is the best at what he does, so he's fine. We all understand the nature of the beast, what we're dealing with."

There had been speculation that Wade and Riley met with Lamar Odom, but that did not take place.

Wade has stated this summer that he plans to stay with the Heat past next offseason, when he will be able to opt out of his contract.

Magic Johnson: Titles 'All That Matter' In Debate Of NBA's Best

Aug 22, 2013 4:44 PM

LeBron James had Magic Johnson out of his top three of the NBA's greatest players of all time, and Johnson reacted on his official Twitter page on Thursday.

"Lebron is entitled to his opinion, but I still think that he and I have a similar game and that’s why I LOVE to watch him play!" Johnson wrote.

James listed Michael Jordan, Julius Erving and Larry Bird as his top three. He ranked Johnson at No. 4.

In Johnson's mind, the number of championships are what provides separation in the debate.

"NBA Championship rings are all that matter; Jordan 6, Me 5, Bird 3, LeBron 2 and Dr. J 1," Johnson wrote.

LeBron Places Jordan, Dr. J, Bird In His Top-3 Players Of All-Time

Aug 21, 2013 12:31 PM

LeBron James was asked in an interview with Fox Sports 1 to name his best three basketball players of all-time.

James quickly responded with Michael Jordan and hesitated for several seconds before including Julius Erving and Larry Bird.

Many historians of the game put several of basketball's best big men in the top-3, but James clearly was leaning toward all-around players with his list.

Wade To Train With Tim Grover In Preperation For Season

Aug 19, 2013 3:52 PM

Dwyane Wade has rehired Tim Grover and will train with him for six weeks leading up to the Miami Heat's training camp.

Wade has worked with Grover extensively in the past but not for the last few summers.

"I don't train my clients to be good as new, I want them to be better than ever," Grover said about working with Wade again. "That's the goal for Dwyane."

Pat Riley has challenged Wade to lower his weight and further develop his game.

Oden, Heat Decided Upon One-Year Deal Without Player Option

Aug 19, 2013 10:56 AM

Greg Oden and the Miami Heat decided to sign a one-year deal without a second-year option as originally planned.

The deal helps Oden because of a league ruling involving injury contingency language. The Heat also would not be taxed in 14-15 if Oden suffers another major injury.

Wade Acknowledges Need To Improve Three-Point Shooting

Aug 19, 2013 10:53 AM

Dwyane Wade has become one of the NBA's greatest all-time shooting guards, but he has never developed a reliable perimeter jumper.

Wade has attempted just 122 three-points over the past two seasons, converting on less than 30 percent of those tries. In a three-season span leading up to the 10-11 season, Wade attempted between 206 and 278 three-pointers.

“The only thing left for me to do is become Mike Miller and shoot a lot of threes,” said Wade when asked of adding to his game. Wade said he won't decide until the season if he will attempt to shoot more three-pointers.

If Wade is to extend his prime, he is widely expected to improve his three-point shooting.

Jarvis Varnado will be with the Miami Heat for training camp.

A report in La Gazzetta dello Sports indicated Varnado was close to a deal in Italy.

"Fact is, Jarvis is under contract with the Heat. Jarvis hasn't accepted any offer from any team in Europe and Jarvis plans on playing for the Heat next year," Frankel said. "There's a lot of teams in Europe that have contacted us about Jarvis and his plans."

Sidigas Avellino is the Italian SerieA team that has been linked to Varnado.

Dwyane Wade Will Use Camp To Get Ready For Season Opener

Aug 16, 2013 4:21 PM

Dwyane Wade admits he will not be ready for the Miami Heat's season opener when training camp starts, but his goal is to use camp to prepare himself for it.

"I won't be ready for opening night when training camp starts," Wade said. "But I'll be ready for opening night when opening night gets here."

Wade believed he did not need to have the blood-spinning procedure in Germany.

"Nah," Wade said. "I wasn't taking that flight. But you ask your doctors what they feel, and they didn't feel I needed to go there."

Dwyane Wade Plans To Sign Long-Term With Heat

Aug 16, 2013 12:05 AM

Dwyane Wade plans to sign another long-term deal with the Miami Heat.

Wade, along with LeBron James and Chris Bosh, is likely to opt-out after the 2013-14 season.

"I'm not going to deal with it," Wade said of the speculation that will envelop James. "I'm going to address it on media day and that'll be the last time I address it. But obviously it's a part of it."

Wade has spent all 10 of his NBA seasons in South Florida.

"Everyone knows where I want to be," he said. "That's what it's all about to me, is making sure we focus on this season, winning this championship.

"I want to be in Miami and I have nothing else to talk about. So there won't be no exciting news over here."
