LeBron Doubts He'll Average Triple-Double For 11-12

Sep 29, 2010 10:31 AM

When Pat Riley met with LeBron James during free agency to pitch him on joining the Heat, Riley said James "sort of lit up and said, `That would be great if I didn't have to score,' that he could be maybe the first since Oscar Robertson to be a triple-double guy."

James, however, is skeptical that he is capable of accomplishing the feat.

"Is it realistic? It's so tough in this day and age," James said this week. "I look up to Big O so much to be able to do that. Unbelievable feat. I don't believe it will ever be matched. It's very intriguing. You would love to make history, but it's not a goal of mine. My goal is to be a triple threat, not to average a triple-double. I know I can do that."

LeBron, Bosh Healed From Last Season's Injuries

Sep 24, 2010 1:27 AM

LeBron James and Chris Bosh were injured at the end of the 09-10 season, but likely will be fully available when training camp begins next week.

Heat president Pat Riley said Thursday that James and Bosh recently passed voluntary conditioning tests and have recovered from injuries that limited both late last season and into the playoffs.

Although James and the Cavaliers initially downplayed the significance of the strain last season, Riley said Thursday "it was a real injury" the Heat checked out after James signed with the Heat as a free agent in July.

Riley said James passed a physical examination before signing his six-year, $110 million contract and has shown no discomfort in workouts with Miami's staff.

"There was some soreness there, and there was some treatment there," Riley said of James' elbow during Thursday's preseason press conference at AmericanAirlines Arena. "It was a real injury, based on what we found out. But it's all fine now. He's getting up a lot of shots and he doesn't look like he's having any after-effects from it at all."

Richardson Was Uninterested In Being A Miami Back-Up

Sep 20, 2010 9:19 AM

Quentin Richardson said he could have stayed in Miami as a back-up, but instead he'll likely start for the Magic.

"I wouldn't be happy if I went back," he said. "I want to win, but I don't want to sit back and be a cheerleader."

Orlando believes Richardson's offensive ability makes him an upgrade over Matt Barnes.

"Everybody knows what I am," he said. "For me, trying to average 20 points is out of character. I'm going to try to be whatever Stan Van Gundy needs, if it's a defensive player first, that's that."

Heat Will Always Keep At Least One Member Of Big 3 On Floor

Sep 19, 2010 9:53 AM

The Heat will make sure at least one of their big three, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh, is always on the floor during the 10-11 season, at least until games are decided.

Erik Spoelstra indicated how he intends to use James, letting him play small forward, point guard and power forward.

``I made the point to LeBron that I don't want to reinvent his game,'' Spoelstra said. ``I don't want him to feel uncomfortable. As a two-time MVP, we want to make sure what he does best, he will be able to do in our system.''

Heat Undecided About Starters

Sep 18, 2010 10:09 AM

Erik Spoelstra indicated on Friday that LeBron James will play point guard at times for the Heat, but he is not set on who will start.

Dwyane Wade has said Mario Chalmers is the starting point guard, but Spoelstra will consider options in addition to Chalmers, including Carlos Arroyo, who finished last season as the starter.

James, Wade and Chris Bosh are the only set starters.

``I do want to make a point of being open minded going into camp,'' Spoelstra said. ``LeBron and Dwyane will be handling the ball quite often. Mario and Carlos will be handling the ball quite often. Mike Miller has a great skill set to be able to handle the ball. Whether LeBron starts [at point guard] or not, is not a high priority right now. I want to get into training camp and get a better feel for this team.''
