Bradley Beal: Wizards Need To Start Winning, Changing The Culture

Jan 17, 2020 5:52 PM

Bradley Beal voiced his frustrations with the Washington Wizards' 13-27 season following a 115-106 loss to the Chicago Bulls.

"I don't like losing, I'm sorry," Beal said. "Especially winnable games."

The game was Beal's second one back from a leg injury.

"I would hope it does," he said when asked if the losing builds up. "I don't like losing so it's going to keep blowing up for me... Until we start winning and changing our culture."

Beal was asked what exactly would change the culture.

"Winning games," he said. "Get that winning attitude and winning habits."

John Wall Plays 3-On-3 But Won't Return This Season Unless He's 100 Percent Healthy

Jan 14, 2020 10:36 AM

John Wall participated in 3-on-3 drills with the player development staff of the Washington Wizards last week, but he's still unlikely to return this season unless he's 100 percent healthy from a ruptured Achilles.

"We're not going to skip steps, we're not going to get excited about 3-on-3," Tommy Sheppard said. "Down the road, I think we'll start to add more players to the court and make it feel more like home, but we're not in a rush to see John come back unless he's 100 percent healthy."

The best form of recovery from Wall's injury is playing against other people to simulate game action.

"The best thing about the 3-on-3 is that he realizes how much more he has to do," Sheppard said. "The rust is there, but I tell you what, it warms the heart to see him out there between the lines."

Wizards Sign Johnathan Williams To Two-Way Contract

Jan 13, 2020 11:21 AM

The Washington Wizards have signed forward Johnathan Williams to a two-way contract. Williams and Garrison Mathews are now Washington’s two-way players on the roster after center Anzejs Pasecniks was signed to a multi-year contract with the Wizards earlier today.

“Johnathan has shown the ability to impact the game on both ends of the court during his time with us and during his previous NBA experience,” said Wizards General Manager Tommy Sheppard.  “His experience playing for Coach Few at Gonzaga prepared him to be a professional both on and off the court and we look forward to his continued development within our program.”

Williams was originally signed by the Wizards on Dec. 26, averaging 5.5 points and 6.3 rebounds in six games (four starts). He was waived on Jan. 4 following the team’s win over Denver (in which he tallied 12 points and eight rebounds) after he had reached the 10-day limit on the team’s injury hardship exception.

On his previous two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers last season, Williams averaged 6.5 points and 4.1 rebounds in 24 games.  He also appeared in 26 games for the South Bay Lakers, where he posted averages of 15.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

Isaiah Thomas Fined $25K For Making Physical Contact With Official

Jan 4, 2020 9:51 PM

The NBA fined Isaiah Thomas $25,000 after he made physical contact with an official during the Washington Wizards' 122-103 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Thomas was ejected early in the first quarter.

Scott Brooks said he thought that the contact was accidental.

"They were in a scrum and they were fighting for the ball, a jump ball. I had a view that it looked like he lost his balance, but [Kogut] had a better view and then they looked at it. They looked at it, so you would hope they made the right call.''
