Caron Butler, Bucks Reach Agreement On Buyout; Heat, Thunder Deemed Favorites

Feb 27, 2014 9:54 AM

Caron Butler and the Milwaukee Bucks have reached agreement on a buyout.

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami Heat are the frontrunners to sign Butler. The Thunder have stopped trying to recruit Danny Granger, which could mean they are confident in their pursuit of Butler. Oklahoma City could slide Kevin Durant to power forward with Butler at small forward in some lineup combinations.

The Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs are also interested in Butler.

Popovich Believes Strategic Rest Extends Careers

Feb 24, 2014 12:35 PM

Gregg Popovich has frequently given some of his players strategic rest over the course of the season to preserve their bodies for the playoffs and also to extend their playing careers.

The San Antonio Spurs were given a substantial fine by the NBA last season when Popovich sent Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan and Danny Green back home to avoid a back-to-back, with the second game televised nationally.

“You don’t want to be fined $250,000 too often, so that’s not a good trend, obviously. But we’ve been resting guys for 20 years since I’ve been here. I think it extends their careers. It’s logical that when you’re playing four games in five nights or eight games in 12 nights or some crazy thing, and your guys are getting older, you do what makes sense.”

Rumor: Tim Duncan Could Retire At End Of Current Season

Feb 18, 2014 2:54 PM

Tim Duncan has a player option for the 14-15 season with the San Antonio Spurs, but he could retire at the end of the current season, according to what George Karl is hearing.

"You know over the weekend, that was the whispers that I got. I got a couple of phone calls, one from San Antonio that said that Tim Duncan's thinking this is going to be his last year. The best, most fundamental big guy ever to play in the NBA, and he leaving would make me very very sad. The San Antonio Spurs without Tim Duncan would be very difficult for me to watch."

Duncan continues to play at an All-Star level.
