Cole Anthony Fined $25K For Profane Remarks Towards Official

Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony was fined $25,000 for directing profane and derogatory remarks towards a game official. The incident occurred as the Orlando Magic lost to the LA Clippers on Wednesday.

On the broadcast, Anthony appeared to be upset over several non-calls as Magic players drove to the basket during the fourth quarter. He was also upset at some foul calls that went against Orlando during the same period of time.

The Orlando Magic are widely expected to trade Terrence Ross or Gary Harris and possibly both by the trade deadline on Feb. 10.

Ross is considered by some to be a natural target for the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz.

Ross has one more season  remaining on his contract with the Magic.

Harris is on an expiring contract.

RJ Hampton Out 2-4 Weeks With MCL Sprain, Bone Bruise

Orlando Magic guard R.J. Hampton is expected to be out 2-4 weeks due to a sprained MCL and bone bruise in his left knee. Hampton was injured in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night.

The second-year guard has been one of the few Magic players to not miss significant time due to injury this season. Hampton has averaged 7.2 points per game on 36.4% three-point shooting in his first full season in Orlando.

Magic Sign Jeff Weltman, John Hammond To Extensions Through 25-26

The Orlando Magic have signed Jeff Weltman and John Hammond to extensions through the 25-26 season.

Alex Martins engaged his front office in talks beginning with the end of last season, and recently finalized terms on the new deals.

The Magic moved into a rebuild last season. Ownership has been pleased with the gathering of young first-round picks (Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony), young players (Wendell Carter Jr.) and draft assets (six first-round picks over the next four years).

The Magic advanced to the playoffs in 2019 and 2020.

Magic Sign Admiral Schofield, Waive Mychal Mulder

The Orlando Magic have signed Admiral Schofield to a Two-Way contract.

Schofield originally signed a 10-day contract via hardship exception by the NBA on December 17, then to a second 10-day contract on December 27.

In addition, the Magic have waived two-way guard Mychal Mulder.

Mulder was originally signed as a free agent to a two-way contract by Orlando on October 26. He played in 15 games (two starts) this season with the Magic, averaging 3.7 ppg. and 1.4 rpg. in 13.0 minpg.

Josh Giddey and Franz Wagner have been named the NBA's Rookies of the Month for December.

Giddey averaged 11.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.7 assists for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Giddey also won the award for November. 

Wagner averaged 19.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists for the Orlando Magic.

Magic Sign Tim Frazier, Freddie Gillespie To Second 10-Day Hardship Deals

The Orlando Magic have inked Tim Frazier and Freddie Gillespie to second 10-Day contracts via the hardship exception. Both Frazier and Gillespie saw action in five games on their first 10-Day deal.

Frazier played 20 minutes per game for Orlando, including one start. He averaged 4.6 points and 3.4 assists per game.

Gillespie also started one game for the Magic. He averaged 3.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and a block over 12.8 points per game.

Orlando is still down 11 players due to injuries and the health and safety protocols. The Magic also have other players that are playing through injuries while the team is shorthanded.
