Orlando Interested In Kurt Thomas

Feb 19, 2008 4:07 AM

Seattle figures to increase the playing time of young big man Robert Swift at the expense of Kurt Thomas, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer is reporting, leaving the Sonics with a dilemma as to what to do with Thomas only days out from the trade deadline.

With Orlando amongst other teams showing interest in the veteran big man, the Sonics need to decide if they're going to keep Thomas in a reduced role for the remainder of the season or send him to a contender.

Thomas said he has enjoyed his time in Seattle.

"It's been great here. My teammates have been outstanding. The coaches have been great here," Thomas said. "The organization has been great, the fans. The city is beautiful up here. So I have really enjoyed myself."

Magic's Howard Flies To Slam Dunk Title

Feb 17, 2008 12:04 AM

Orlando's Dwight Howard won perhaps the best dunk contest in NBA history to close a memorable All-Star Saturday, as reported by the Associated Press.

Howard scored perfect 50s from judges on his first two dunks before the contest was turned over to fan voting for the first time in the final round.

Fans, too, picked Howard, who dispelled an old dunking myth: Big men can fly high.

?It?s really for the big men,? Howard said. ?Everybody always says, big men can?t jump and big men don?t look good dunking. I just tried to add a little bit of my personality. With me being so tall, I knew it was going to be tough. I tried to play to the crowd and have fun.?

NBA Rejects Howard's All-Star Dunk Request

Feb 13, 2008 4:52 AM

According to Marc Stein from ESPN, Dwight Howard has requested - and was denied - to have the rim risen to 12 feet for the NBA dunk contest.

Howard made the same request last season and was also rejected.

Last season Howard was planning to wow judges with a 360 dunk at 12 feet and an attempt at 11.5 feet which called for him to shift the ball between his legs in mid-air, Stein writes.

Fellow contestants Rudy Gay and Gerald Green took the challenge up to Howard, saying if he wants to dunk a 12 foot rim, they would too.

"You have that idea about moving the goal to 12 feet?," Gay wrote in his blog on nba.com "If you want to do it, go ahead and do it. I'm pretty confident in my jumping ability. If you go before me, I'll leave it up there and do my dunk."

Van Gundy Sits Howard After Clash

Feb 12, 2008 9:40 AM

Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy and superstar center Dwight Howard had a "bit of a clash" that led the coach to bench the all-star on Monday night, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Van Gundy reportedly sat Howard for a key two-minute stretch during the Magic's 118-111 loss to the Cavaliers after the center said something he didn't like.

"That's going to be between Dwight and I, but his focus isn't where it needs to be," Van Gundy told the Sentinel. "I don't think right now we're on the same page, to be quite honest."

Magic Looking For Another Big

Feb 10, 2008 1:16 AM

Magic GM Otis Smith has admitted to Florida Today that he is looking at adding another power forward before the February 21 trade deadline.

The Magic have played Rashard Lewis out of position at power forward all season, which has allowed Hedo Turkoglu to blossom at the small forward spot.

"It would be really nice to have another big body, but quite frankly we've played really well with what we've had," Smith said. "You'd be crazy to not want to help your team get better. But you have to do something that's going to make sense and not just because you feel like you have to make a move."

Redick Still Unlikely To Be Dealt

Feb 6, 2008 6:01 AM

J.J. Redick still remains stuck on the bench in Orlando, and while he and his agent Arn Tellem went public asking for either more minutes or a trade last week, Redick will most likely not be getting either before the February 21 trade deadline, the Associated Press is reporting.

The Magic claim they really like Redick and love his work ethic in practice.  Redick is also behind three guards with expiring contracts right now - Carlos Arroyo, Keyon Dooling, and Maurice Evans - which may come into the equation.
