Chet Holmgren Looks Really Good; Hopeful To Play In Summer League

Jun 25, 2023 8:29 PM

Oklahoma City Thunder big man Chet Holmgren has recovered from a Lisfranc injury and looks "really good", per Sam Presti. The Thunder front office executive said Holmgren has been working out daily. Oklahoma City hopes that Holmgren will play in Summer League.

"It is our hope that he’ll be out there, our expectation. Chet is doing great. He has had a great offseason. It is one of those things where you, sometimes, don’t appreciate the consistency of somebody because all through the draft process and since the end of the season, you’re in the building every day and he is out there — same time, same schedule — just monotonously putting in all of this work with our coaches," Presti said. "He has done a great job. He has followed the plan and looks really good. We’re excited for him, but I don’t think anybody could be more excited than he is."

Holmgren is entering the second year of his rookie scale contract. Because he didn't play in a game last season, Holmgren will be eligible to win 2024 Rookie of the Year.

Keyontae Johnson Will Play For Thunder On Two-Way Contract

Jun 24, 2023 5:57 PM

Keyontae Johnson will sign a two-way contract with the Okalahoma City Thunder and the Oklahoma City Blue of the G League, per Thunder front office executive Sam Presti. The Thunder drafted Johnson with the 50th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft.

Johnson averaged 17.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for Kansas State last season. In his lone season with the Wildcats, Johnson started in 36 games and averaged 34.1 minutes per game.

It was unclear if Johnson would ever play again, after suffering a cardiac issue during his junior season with the Florida Gators. Johnson played in a ceremonial game with the Gators as a senior. Following his time at Florida, Johnson was cleared to play again and transferred to Kansas State for his senior season.

Jun 13, 2023 12:13 PM

At the 2022 NBA draft, the Denver Nuggets considered trading up with the Washington Wizards for the No. 10 pick as they targeted Jalen Williams.

Williams was selected 12th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder and finished second in Rookie of the Year voting.

Nuggets, Thunder Agree To Trade Multiple Picks

Jun 9, 2023 11:23 AM

The Denver Nuggets have agreed to acquire the least favorable of the first round picks owned by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2024, as well as the 37th pick in the 2023 draft and a 2024 second round pick for a protected 2029 first round pick.

The Thunder previously owned as many as four first round picks in 2024 between their own, as well as from the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and Utah Jazz.

Oklahoma City is balancing out when they will have future first round picks, while the Nuggets are looking to maximize their title window and have additional opportunities for lower cost contributors.

Oklahoma City still owns Denver's top-five protected 2027 first-round pick from the JaMychal Green trade last year.

Aleksej Pokusevski Suffered Right Humerus Fracture In Offseason Workout

Jun 2, 2023 8:35 AM

Oklahoma City Thunder big man Aleksej Pokusevski suffered a small fracture in his right humerus during an offseason workout. Per the team, Pokusevski will re-evaluated in four to six weeks.

Pokusevski is coming off somewhat of a lost season. He played in only 34 games in his third year, due to various injuries. The most serious was a non-displaced fracture in his left tibial plateau. That injury caused Pokusevski to miss the bulk of the second half of the season.

The 7-foot forward/center has one season remaining on his rookie scale contract. Pokusevski is extension-eligible this offseason, but it's unclear where the Thunder see him as part of their long-term future.
