Russell Westbrook Believes He's Treated Differently By Officials

Dec 30, 2016 12:06 PM

Russell Westbrook was ejected in Thursday's loss by the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Memphis Grizzlies as he picked up back-to-back technical fouls. Westbrook believes he's being officiated differently from other players.

"Honestly, I don't know, man. Honestly, it's crazy to be ejected like that, especially when I didn't do nothing," Westbrook said. "It's just crazy, man. Especially for me, because I feel like I don't get the benefit of the doubt most of the time, especially throughout the game with refs.

"I get so many techs just for talking. I can't even say nothing when I'm getting hammered every time I go to the damn basket throughout the games and previous games. Not tonight, but every night. I just don't get ref'd the same way as other people, and I don't appreciate it."

Westbrook's ejection Thursday came after he argued what he thought was an air ball by the Grizzlies and an incorrect resetting of the shot clock.

Thomas led the Eastern Conference in scoring (33.3 ppg) and ranked sixth in assists (7.3 apg) as the Celtics went 3-1, with all three wins coming on the road. He scored a career-high 44 points, including 36 in the second half, in a 112-109 overtime win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Dec. 20. Thomas shot 48.8 percent from the field and 90.7 percent (39-for-43) from the free throw line for the week. He matched his season high with 10 assists in a 117-112 loss to the Thunder on Dec. 23.

It was his sixth career triple-double with at least 40 points, placing him third all-time behind Oscar Robertson (22) and Chamberlain (seven).

Russell Westbrook Denies Yelling 'Thank You Kyrie'

Dec 25, 2016 10:45 PM

Russell Westbrook was adamant he didn't yell "Thank you Kyrie!" as he ran off the court making a shot to close out his pregame shootaround. The Oklahoma City Twitter account posted video of the incident.

Kyrie Irving made the game-winning shot for the Cleveland Cavaliers to beat the Golden State Warriors earlier in the day.

“What? F--- do I look like, man? Why would I ever say that?” Westbrook said in pregame interviews, apparently unaware of the video until he was asked about it. “I would never say no other man’s name like that, for one. ‘Thank you Kyrie.’ What do I look like? I was talking to my trainer’s daughter. His daughter’s name is Jayme. ‘Thank you Jayme.’ I’m tired of – I ain’t about to keep going on that. I’m gonna keep my spirit up. I’m not about to even involve myself in no dumb stuff like that. Next question, man.”

Russell Westbrook, James Harden Will Be Grandfathered Into Super-Max

Dec 20, 2016 11:49 PM

James Harden and Russell Westbrook will be grandfathered into the NBA's new Collective Bargaining Agreement to sign super-max contracts.

Both Harden and Westbrook signed extensions with the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder, respectively, during the 2016 offseason. Harden signed a four-year, $118 million renegotiation in July. Westbrook signed a three-year, $85.7 million renegotiation.

Westbrook could sign a five-year, $219 million contract extension with the Thunder that would begin in the 2018-19 season. He’ll make $28.5 million in 2017-18.

Harden could sign for an additional four years and $171 million starting in 2019 – on top of the $58.7 million owed to him in the next two years of his current contract.

Victor Oladipo Continues To Miss Time But Won't Need Surgery On Wrist

Dec 20, 2016 1:52 PM

Victor Oladipo missed his fourth straight game on Monday with a right wrist sprain.

Oladipo went through limited drills in pregame, passing and dribbling only with his left hand.

Billy Donovan didn't say Oladipo was day-to-day, but emphasized that Oladipo is "getting better and progressing." Donovan said Oladipo "can't do anything with his right hand right now."

Donovan said the Thunder doesn't know the timetable on his return, but that Oladipo would not require surgery.

"Based on the MRI he went through, based on our medical team consulting with the doctor, there's no need for surgery," Donovan said. "He's got swelling. He's got discomfort. He has a lack of mobility. He has pain when he's in certain positions.

"My understanding is that if he really forces this thing and tries to come back too fast, it could be something that's going to be prolonged."

Russell Westbrook Sick Of Triple-Double Talk After Two Straight Games Without One

Dec 15, 2016 11:06 AM

Russell Westbrook hasn't record a triple-double in two straight games after recording one in seven straight.

Westbrook is now averaging 30.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 10.6 assists per game.

"Honestly, man, people and this triple-double thing is kind of getting on my nerves," said Westbrook. "People think if I don't get it, it's like a big thing. When I do get it, it's a thing. If y'all just let me play ... if I get it, I get it. If I don't, I don't. It is what it is. I really don't care. For the 100th time, I don't care.

"All I care about is winning, man, honestly. All the numbers, (expletive) don't mean nothing to me."

Before Westbrook's two-game slide of losses and no triple-doubles, he was more willing to discuss triple-doubles.

"Whenever you get the opportunity to be mentioned with those guys — (Oscar Robertson), Michael JordanMagic Johnson — those guys, it’s a blessing," Westbrook said Tuesday. "It’s something I never take for granted. I definitely don’t want that to go out the window, but at the same time, I always like to live in the moment."

Thunder, Pacers, Rockets Have Had Interest In Rudy Gay

Dec 14, 2016 12:36 PM

Rudy Gay can become a free agent this offseason and has openly suggested he isn't interested in re-signing with the Sacramento Kings.

"The one player who is going to have to move between now and the trade deadline is Rudy Gay," said Wojnarowski. "I don't think the Kings can make the same mistake New Orleans made last year with Ryan Anderson. Ryan Anderson was pretty clear he was not going to re-sign there and they lost him for nothing. Especially for a team so devoid of assets, they couldn't let him walk for nothing.

"Oklahoma City got down to the wire before Cameron Payne's injury (trading for Gay).

There are several teams with interest in trading for Gay.

"There's no question Oklahoma City. Indiana has had interest in him. Houston has had some peripheral interest. I don't think they have the pieces to trade."

Victor Oladipo Suffers Sprained Right Wrist

Dec 11, 2016 9:30 PM

Victor Oladipo suffered a sprained right wrist against the Boston Celtics on Sunday after taking a hard fall and landing on his upper back and neck area.

Oladipo went to contest a corner 3 by Jonas Jerebko late in the first quarter, but as Jerebko pump-faked and put the ball on the floor, Oladipo's foot caught his shoulder, flipping the Thunder guard over and onto his back.

Oladipo was down for several minutes before eventually walking to the Thunder locker room on his own power.

Oladipo was cleared of the NBA's concussion protocol.

Mark Cuban Still Doesn't Put Russell Westbrook In 'Superstar' Category

Dec 10, 2016 1:41 PM

Mark Cuban still isn't convinced Russell Westbrook is a superstar several months after he declared him short of his standard during last year's playoffs.

Westbrook is averaging a triple-double to start the season.

"He's putting up superstar numbers. That's for damn sure," Cuban said of Westbrook. "I'm not taking anything away from what he's been able to accomplish, but I'm not going to change my definition. He's putting up superstar numbers. You can't deny that."

Cuban believes a true superstar can carry a mediocre roster to 50 wins and a postseason series win.

"That's no disrespect to Russell," Cuban said. "He's been a beast. Few have done what he's done, but I'll stick by my definition. I'm not saying that he's not going to prove me wrong and that he [won't be] a superstar by the end of the year. That's fine, but I'll stick by my definition."
