Chandler Jokes About Trade Yet Knows It Could Happen Again

Feb 26, 2009 10:58 AM

Tyson Chandler rejoined his Hornets' teammates last Thursday after boarding their chartered flight to Los Angeles. He did not play against the Lakers on Friday night or against Utah on Saturday night, but was back on the floor Mondy in Sacramento and Wednesday against the Pistons.

"The first thing he said was you all can't get rid of me, and everybody just laughed," Hornets Coach Byron Scott said. "I think everything from that point was cool. I don't think he will be the first player or won't be the last to be traded, then rescinded and have some ill feelings toward management."

Chandler said there is a possibility he could be traded during the offseason to help reduce the Hornets' $76 million payroll that would be above the luxury tax threshold that is expected to be lower than this season's $71.1 million.

"I just feel like it's definitely a possibility," Chandler said. "If you were to ask me this last year, I would say no way. Now, I say it's a very high chance. You just don't know. That part is tough, because y

Pistons Lose Iverson, Wallace

Feb 26, 2009 7:13 AM

While the Pistons continue to lose games, they also lost two of their key starters on Wednesday night as Detroit lost to New Orleans, the Associated Press is reporting.

Detroit were forced to finish the game without Allen Iverson or Rasheed Wallace.

Iverson aggravated a back strain he sustained in Tuesday night's loss to Miami. He started and shot 1-of-4 before leaving late in the first quarter. Wallace was ejected with 7:55 left in the fourth quarter after picking up his second technical foul in 27 seconds.

Hornets' Chandler Plans To Return Against Kings

Feb 22, 2009 9:29 AM

New Orleans center Tyson Chandler, who has missed fifteen straight games, plans to return on Monday night against Sacramento.

"I wasn't ready in that practice," Chandler said of Monday's workout, which he had to leave. "That was just me wanting to be back, tired of sitting on the sidelines. Physically, I wasn't ready to come back. I wasn't exactly healed yet.

"I feel like potentially I can go in Sacramento. That's my goal."

Chandler rejoined the team on Friday for the first time since he was traded to Oklahoma City, and then sent back to New Orleans after the Thunder rescinded the trade.

Oklahoma City was concerned about his surgically repaired big toe.

"That's the funny thing about it. I haven't missed a game (because of the toe) since my surgery," he said.

Regardless, he's happy to still be in New Orleans.

"These are my teammates," Chandler said. "I felt like I never really left. I heard the rumors. I hadn't heard about the Thunder until the day before, but that's the business. You're going to hear your name in rumors. When the trade went through, I tried to be professional about it, go where you've got to go and make the best of it.

"I didn't want to leave these guys. I feel we have a lot we're going to accomplish. I felt like we were going to be cut short. I was disappointed in that, the way things were handled. I don't take (comments regarding the team's shortcomings before the trade) personally. If that's what we want to do, we should get bigger and stronger, not take away pieces we already have. If we feel we don't have enough, let's get enough or add on to what we got. Let's not take away huge pieces of the puzzle."

Their streak began back in December 2005.

Cavaliers Want Posey From Hornets?

Feb 19, 2009 9:39 AM

The Cavaliers have long been interested in Hornets forward James Posey, whom they coveted in free agency last summer.

New Orleans has said all along that they want frontcourt depth in any trade, which is exactly what they received in the rescinded Tyson Chandler trade, but Cleveland doesn't have any spare bigs to deal for Posey.

Chandler: I'm Super Shocked

Feb 19, 2009 2:06 AM

Just as Tyson Chandler got over the shock and disappointment of being dealt to the Thunder, he learned that he was actually going to return to the Hornets.

"This is absolutely crazy," Chandler told ESPN in a phone conversation on Wednesday night. "I'm super shocked. This is nuts."

Chandler's big toe was the reason why Oklahoma City rescinded the deal.

"I was really disappointed too when I was traded," Chandler said. "I felt like if we were healthy we had a championship team in New Orleans. But I didn't want to sulk so I started to get excited about the new challenge in Oklahoma City. I felt I could help turn that team around."

Thunder Rescind Tyson Chandler Trade

Jan 16, 2015 11:02 AM

The Hornets and Thunder agreed to a trade that sent Tyson Chandler to Oklahoma City in exchange for Joe Smith, Chris Wilcox and DeVon Hardin.

One day later, the four players will be going back to their original teams.

Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced in a press release on Wednesday evening that the team has rescinded its trade with the Hornets for Chandler.

"We were pleased to add Tyson to the Thunder roster," said Presti. "During the course of the physical examination and outside consultations some questions arose that gave us cause for concern. We felt that this course of action was the best for our organization."

Rescinding trades in the NBA is a very rare occurrence. During the summer of 2005, the Nets and Blazers agreed on a trade that sent Shareef Abdur-Rahim to New Jersey, but it was rescinded following a physical examination.

The Cavaliers rescinded a trade involving Mateen Cleaves in a deal with Sacramento in 2002 and they also rescinded a deal for Victor Alexander with the Raptors in 1995.
