Frank Mason III Named G League MVP

Jun 25, 2020 12:53 PM

Wisconsin Herd guard Frank Mason III has been named the 2019-20 NBA G League Most Valuable Player. He earned the honor in a vote by the league’s 28 head coaches and general managers.

Mason (5-11, 190, Kansas), who signed a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks last July, averaged an NBA G League-high 26.4 points, 5.0 assists and 3.4 rebounds in 23 games with the Herd. Wisconsin went 18-5 with Mason in the lineup and finished with the league’s best record (33-10).

Mason shot 50.4 percent from the field, 42.5 percent from three-point range and 81.5 percent from the free throw line, joining the Fort Wayne Mad Ants’ Stephan Hicks as the only players in the NBA G League to record a 50/40/80 shooting season in 2019-20.

Mike Budenholzer Says Giannis Antetokounmpo Is 'Completely And Totally Healthy'

Jun 24, 2020 1:24 AM

Mike Budenholzer said that Giannis Antetokounmpo has fully recovered from a minor sprain in his left knee suffered against the Los Angeles Lakers before the season was suspended.

Antetokounmpo suffered the injury on March 6th, and did not play again as games were put on hold the following week.

"It's a huge advantage for us that Giannis will be completely and totally healthy. He's in a great place, both mentally and physically.

"Who's to say how things would have gone if we kept on playing? I'm not sure it would be safe to say [Giannis] would have missed a couple of weeks. Could it have been less? Maybe. Could it have been more? Perhaps. We can look back a bit and say, 'Wow, I wonder what would have happened there.' But the great thing is he's healthy now," said Budenholzer.

Budenholzer added that he's not dwelling on the Bucks losing their home-court advantage in Orlando.

"At least we've been given the chance to play. It would have been so much worse if this team never had a chance to see how far it can go, if it never had a chance to get to the playoffs."

George Hill Says There's 'Bigger Things To Tackle In Life Right Now Than' Basketball

Jun 13, 2020 12:12 PM

George Hill said that basketball was the furthest thing from his mind amid the civil unrest and protest throughout the nation.

"I've been working every day since this all started with my body, my game and things like that, but as a whole, I can care less about basketball right now. ... that's my last thought on my mind is basketball. I can care less what's going on. I think there's bigger issues and bigger things to tackle in life right now than a basketball game," said Hill.

Hill was speaking on a local panel in Indiana entitled "The State of Black America: A Discussion with Representatives from Sports & Entertainment."

Hill added that while he's in good physical shape, he didn't know how he would be affected mentally by the current events.

"I don't know how it's going to affect me on the basketball court. I know that I, physically, have been working my ass off this entire time I've been off. I haven't taken one day off since this whole hiatus has came into effect. ... I'm in great physical shape, but mentally, I've still got a little more work to do.

"I'm paid millions of dollars to go out there and perform at a high level so part of it's like, 'Man, you've got to suck it up and go out there and do what you're paid to do,' but the other part of it is like, 'Listen man this basketball s---, I love it, it's part of what makes me me, but it's not all of what makes me me, either,' and I have a responsibility as a young black professional athlete to advocate for this change."
