Giannis Antetokounmpo: Bucks Can Probably Win 70 Games

Jan 31, 2020 4:22 PM

Giannis Antetokounmpo believes the Milwaukee Bucks should have had more than one other All-Star beyond himself and Khris Middleton, citing Eric Bledsoe and Brook Lopez.

"Bled could average 20-25 points if we actually played a lot of minutes but we didn't. He's sacrificed also, a lot for this team and is one of our leaders," he continued. "Not just Bled, and Brook [Lopez] also. I wanted Bled to be on the team, the whole team wanted Bled to be on the team because he's definitely deserving, but this team is unselfish. Guys that are on this team, they just play to win and even though he did not make it, he's going to come out tonight and for the rest of the season give his best and help this team be successful."

The Bucks are 41-6 and Antetokounmpo believes they can win 70 games.

"We're not done," Antetokounmpo said. "We've got a long way to go. We're on pace, we can probably win 70 games, but at the end of the day, we've got to keep getting better. I think the team is getting better game by game and we're definitely motivated. We haven't done nothing. Not trying to take anything away from the games that we won, but we've got a long way to go and I've said in the past, but I'll say it right now that our goal is to play in June and be the best team we can be at that time."

Marc Lasry Tells Michael Jordan He Wants Bucks To Beat Bulls' Regular Season Record

Jan 29, 2020 1:52 AM

Marc Lasry recalled telling Michael Jordan that he wants this season's Milwaukee Bucks to win 70 games and best the Chicago Bulls' 72-10 record.

The conversation took place last week in Paris, where the Bucks beat the Hornets 116-103.

"When I was in Paris, I was talking to Michael about this and I said, 'Well, what do you think? I think we've got a real shot at doing what you guys have done [win 70 games]. This is a really unique team.' And he goes, 'Look, my advice to you is don't focus on beating our record, focus on winning a championship.' And I said, 'Wow, that's great. Thank you for that. Just so you know we're going to focus on beating your record and winning a championship.' I think we should do everything, but that's me," said Lasry of the conversation between him and Jordan.

The Bucks are currently 40-6 on the season. The 1995-96 Bulls went 72-10, while the 2015-16 Warriors beat the record by going 73-9.

Lasry joked that he wished the Bucks won 80 games this season.

"I was hoping we'd get to 80. ... I know everybody's happy at 70, but I was going for 80. When we ended up losing a couple more games, I was like, 'Damn.' But we'll see. I'm the wrong person to talk to because I actually think we're really good, we have all these capabilities, and what's actually unique about our team is how much it's a team."

Giannis Antetokounmpo: I Don't Think There's A Team We Cannot Beat

Jan 21, 2020 8:46 AM

The Milwaukee Bucks are currently on pace to win 70 games one season after they finished with the best record in the NBA.

“I don’t think there’s a team in this league we cannot beat,” Giannis Antetokounmpo said.

The Bucks have won 13 games by 20 or more points.

“I think there’s a focus and a purpose with this group that allows you to get through,” Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said. “I think if you have great purpose with what you’re doing every day, this group has that. All up and down the roster, you have a bunch of competitive guys, professional guys and we’re so blessed. We’re so fortunate to have the roster that we do. (General manager Jon Horst) did just an amazing job. And I think it’s just their character that helps. I mean, we’ve had a couple of duds. We’re not totally immune to it. But by and large, it’s an impressive group.”

“We just don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves,” Khris Middleton said. “Last year, we had the best record. We realized you can’t win the championship in the regular season, so we’re still going to get better. We’re still going to compete. We still want to play well. But at the end of the day, all this matters come playoff time.

“In the playoffs, the real games, that’s when guys step it up, and we can’t think, just because we had a great regular season, that’s going to carry us through the playoffs.”

Jon Horst: Bucks Chasing Title, Not Regular Season Wins

Jan 17, 2020 7:41 AM

Jon Horst insists the Milwaukee Bucks are chasing a championship and not regular season wins.

"We're not chasing wins. I do think that playoff seeding matters," Horst told Duke men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski on this week's episode of his SiriusXM show, "Basketball and Beyond with Coach K."

"I think our seeding matters and we want to be intentional and careful about how we end up seedingwise, but we're not chasing total wins," he said.

"What we're chasing is we want to be an NBA champion. We want to be better than we were last year. Last year we fell short of the Finals, this year we want to get to the Finals. We want to get there healthy. We want to be playing well. As I think you would tell anyone, that if you're healthy, if you're good enough and you catch enough breaks along the way you can win it. And that's where we want to be positioned to hope to be able to do."

The Bucks are unlikely to match the Golden State Warriors' record 73 wins set in 2016 based on their current pace.

Stephen Curry Claims He Was Recruiting Giannis Antetkounmpo To Play Video Game

Jan 9, 2020 9:14 PM

Stephen Curry was seen on camera talking to Giannis Antetkounmpo following Wednesday's win by the Milwaukee Bucks over the Golden State Warriors.

Many speculated as to their conversation as it appeared Curry was recruiting Antetkounmpo.

"I reached out to Steph via text and (he said) all he was doing was giving Giannis his gamer tag for an online game called PlayerUnknown Battleground. He said he told Giannis, ‘Come see me on this game. We can team up and do some damage. Let’s do it. Come on.'”

Antetkounmpo can become a free agent in 2021 and he also shares the same agency as Curry.

Mike Budenholzer: Giannis Antetkounmpo's Supermax Decision Hasn't Worn On Bucks

Jan 9, 2020 12:29 PM

Mike Budenholzer was asked before Wednesday's win at the Golden State Warriors whether the impending decision of Giannis Antetkounmpo this coming offseason on whether to sign a supermax extension with the Milwaukee Bucks has worn on the team.

"No, I think the team has been incredibly focused," said Budenholzer. "He's been incredibly focused just on each day, getting better, competing with his his group and being respectful with what we're doing now. I don't know, maybe there's more than I realize but he seems in a great place. The groups in a great place and we'll hopefully keep it rolling."

Antetkounmpo can become a free agent in 2021 if he doesn't sign a supermax extension.
