Bucks Looking To Acquire Backup Point Guard, Center

Apr 27, 2011 10:21 AM

Bucks general manager John Hammond said he will try to shore up at point guard and center, finding some key backup help for Brandon Jennings and Andrew Bogut.

"We need to shoot it better," Hammond said of improving the Bucks' league-worst field goal percentage (43%). "There's hardly a team in the NBA that has enough bigs. A backup big would help.

"And the backup point guard spot - Keyon Dooling did a great job defensively, and Earl Boykins gave us some unexpected help at times during the season. But it's something we'd like to improve on.

"Maybe Keyon can come back and be better than he was this past year."

Dooling, who was used at shooting guard and point guard, will be in the second year of a two-year, $4 million contract next season.

Bucks To Pick Up Option On Delfino

Apr 26, 2011 11:53 PM

Bucks general manager John Hammond confirmed Tuesday that forward Carlos Delfino will be returning for a third season with the team.

The Bucks have a $3.5 million team option on Delfino for the 2011-'12 season. The Argentine forward averaged 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 49 games with the Bucks last season and made 40 starts.

Delfino suffered a concussion in the first week of the season and eventually missed 32 games due to symptoms from a series of hits to the head.

He was able to return to the lineup in late January and had back-to-back 30-point games in March against New York and Sacramento. That established a career high for points.

Delfino led the Bucks with 105 three-pointers made and the team had a 10-5 record when he hit three or more three-pointers in a game.

Injury Plagued Season Took Its Toll On Bogut

Apr 21, 2011 10:33 AM

Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut recently underwent surgery to remove  some loose particles and scar tissue from his right elbow

"When I was under anesthesia, the surgeon (Dr. James Andrews) said he had my arm going in all directions," Bogut said. "I had full mobility and that's a good sign.".

Carlos Delfino claims Bogut played at only 70 percent capacity this season.

"It was very tough on him," Delfino said. "Sometimes, you could tell how frustrated he was and how he was a little down about how he wasn't able to do the things he used to be able to do.

Bogut conceded this season was a season from hell. There were times, he revealed, when it felt like he didn't even have an arm.

"The more games we had in shorter periods of time, or when we were like at the end of a long trip, my arm felt like jelly," Bogut said. "I had no feeling whatsoever in my arm."

Skiles: Bucks Lacked Leadership

Apr 17, 2011 2:59 PM

The Milwaukee Bucks lacked leadership and cohesive team chemistry, coach Scott Skiles said Saturday.

“It’s fair to say we did not have good leadership on our team this year,” Skiles said.  “But that’s something you can’t manufacture. You can’t just say that guy is a leader.

“I guarantee you’d be shocked in all pro sports, when you’re on the inside of something like this and you know the league and players and coaches, and somebody in the media will say, ‘That guy’s the leader of that team’. Often times, it’s so far from the truth that it’s ridiculous.

“You can’t manufacture that. It just naturally happens. Some people are just natural leaders. Other people can cultivate it some themselves. And then you need both. If you have good leadership on the team you also need guys that will follow the leader. Chemistry and all those things are very fragile things.”

The Bucks aren’t sure yet if Brandon Jennings, who just completed his second season in the league, is capable of providing that leadership.

Jennings Publicly Expresses Discontent With Offseason Moves

Apr 4, 2011 1:10 PM

After the Milwaukee Bucks were virtually eliminated from the playoffs in a loss on Friday to the Pacers, Brandon Jennings publicly expressed his discontent.

"Some guys have the mind-set of winning on the team and some guys just don't,'' Jennings said.

Jennings then indirectly took a shot at the Bucks' personnel decision-makers.

"We traded a lot of pieces I feel like we should have kept,'' Jennings said. "But that's part of the business and you've got to roll with it.''
