Wade Says Playing For Knicks With LeBron Could Happen

Jan 31, 2009 9:59 PM

Dwyane Wade was asked about the possibility of playing with LeBron James in New York on Friday evening.

"It's not crazy," Wade told The Post in the visitor's locker room of Indiana's Conseco Fieldhouse. "It could happen. We both understand that. We both signed the same contract. We did it together. More than anything, it's fun to think about. It's exciting to know we both control our future. Will it happen? Who knows. He has some something he's trying to accomplish in Cleveland. I have something I'm trying to accomplish in Miami. But up until 2010, it will be fun to think about."

Wade did mention that the New York weather is one factor against him signing with the Knicks, citing his love of the Miami sun.

Marbury Has Been Talking To Heat, Mavs And Celtics

Jan 27, 2009 3:23 PM

Stephon Marbury appeared on Sports Center on Tuesday and tried to set the record straight on his situation.  He has been in contact with the Celtics, Heat, and Mavericks.

"If something was to happen, I would be able to pick either of those teams," said Marbury.  "So it's not do I have a verbal or did Boston give me a commitment. That's people saying what they are basically speculating on what I said. If I could get out of my deal, I'd have a chance to choose what teams that I am able to go to. Even if those teams are not there, another team might come up and try to do something. I don't know where it could go. But the whole truth of the matter is I have to be able to get out of my deal. And I'm in a deal where I'm basically locked in where I can't play basketball. I can't complain too much because they are still paying me.

"I don't believe that it's about the money," said Marbury.  "I think it's about where I'm going to be playing basketball at. D'Antoni says that he doesn't mind if I play in Boston or if I played in Miami. He didn't care moving forward. I don't think it's necessarily about money. It can't be about money, whereas the Knicks, the organization itself, they're a billion dollar company, so I don't think it can be about that, especially when they owe me that money. I didn't come this year saying to the Knicks that I wanted to go in another direction. I came here ready to play. I did the exact thing Donnie Walsh told me to do. He told me to come in the best shape of my life and I did that."

Horford Travels With Hawks To Miami

Jan 26, 2009 5:01 PM

Hawks' center Al Horford has made the trip to Miami with his teammates despite comments to the contrary from coach Mike Woodson.

However, Horford isn't expected to play on Monday against the Heat or on Wednesday against the Knicks in New York.

Horford wasn't expected to work out with the team until the end of the week, but his travel to South Beach could mean that he'll take the practice court in the next few days.

Are Heat Resting Marion For Trade?

Jan 24, 2009 11:35 AM

Shawn Marion will be held out of Saturday's game against Orlando because of a strained groin that Miami doesn't want to see get any worse.

There is some believe that the Heat are keeping Marion out to prevent him from seriously hurting the groin, which would diminish his trade value substantially.

Riley Doesn't Deny Marion-For-O'Neal Rumors

Jan 23, 2009 4:47 PM

Miami president Pat Riley has done little to discourage rumors that the Heat could send Shawn Marion to the Raptors for Jermaine O'Neal.

"I value Shawn Marion immensely," Riley said. "He is a tremendous player. I'm sorry this is going on right now, but that's the NBA business."

There have been reports that the Heat have requested medical records about O'Neal.

"I could have made the same request to five other teams also," Riley said. "That's just the normal process."

Dwyane Wade, Miami's star, shrugged off any talk of a major trade.

"No one is coming in today to save the day," Wade said. "This is my team. I have to continue to lead this team. I'm not worried about who's not here. I'm worried about who's here."

Riley Confirms Miami's Search For Big Man

Jan 23, 2009 9:23 AM

Heat president Pat Riley confirmed on Thursday that he is still looking for a big man to help the team.

He admitted that there are roster voids that he will look to fill via trade before next month's deadline.

"The big picture always trumps the present moment," Riley said of swinging a deal that might jeopardize their cap flexibility in 2010. "While the present is important, I'm not going to do something to take away from what we can achieve down the road."

Mourning Announces Retirement

Jan 22, 2009 2:58 PM

Alonzo Mourning has decided to retire from the NBA at the age of 38.

The seven-time All-Star center said Thursday he won't return from a devastating leg injury in 2007. He's not under contract but had been working out at the Miami Heat's complex and still had a spot in the team's locker room.

Mourning hasn't played since tearing the patella tendon and quadriceps muscle in his right leg on Dec. 19, 2007, the fourth anniversary of his lifesaving kidney transplant. He said he feared another return would put his health in jeopardy.

"I truly feel it's best that I retire," Mourning said at a news conference. "When you've got something you love and you're passionate about, it's hard to let that go. But at 38 I feel I've physically done all I can for this game. It has been an amazing ride."

Beasley In No Rush To Find New Agent

Jan 22, 2009 10:59 AM

Michael Beasley parted ways with agent Joel Bell in September amid disputes over endorsements.

According to the NBA's rookie-scale contract, Beasley is guaranteed about $9 million over his first two seasons. He already secured a shoe contract with adidas and several other minor marketing and endorsement deals.

"Me signing with another agent right now would probably be one of my dumbest decisions," Beasley said.

"I've already got my [NBA] contract, my shoe deal, my endorsements. So me signing an agent before my next contract, before my next deal comes up, I'd be paying him for nothing."
