Spurs, Clippers, Suns, Wolves, Knicks, Heat Make Offers For Kyrie Irving

Jul 28, 2017 8:53 AM

There were approximately 20 teams who made inquiries to the Cleveland Cavaliers upon learning of Kyrie Irving's trade requests but far fewer have delivered legitimate proposals.

The San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks and Miami Heat have made offers to the Cavaliers for Irving.

The Cavaliers are seeking a package similar to what the Denver Nuggets received for Carmelo Anthony in 2011. Denver acquired a combination of young players, win-now veterans and draft picks. Rival teams are instead looking at what the Wolves gave up for Jimmy Butler.

Koby Altman is taking a measured approach to negotiations.

"I'll say this about [Altman]," one rival GM interested in Irving told ESPN. "He isn't overwhelmed. He's showing real poise."

Cavaliers Believe They Could Have Turned Irving, Love Into Chris Paul, Paul George

Jul 21, 2017 6:55 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers believe they could have turned Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love into Chris Paul and Paul George in June.

Cleveland kept both Irving and Love in June as they were unaware Irving would soon be requesting a trade before the end of July.

Paul orchestrated an opt-in and trade from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Houston Rockets before the start of free agency.

George was traded on June 30th by the Indiana Pacers to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Rockets Offered J.J. Redick More Money Than 76ers

Jul 21, 2017 12:49 PM

Before the start of free agency, J.J. Redick was recruited by Chris Paul to join him with the Houston Rockets.

“Five days before free agency, I didn’t think Houston was even a possibility,” Redick said on his new podcast on Uninterrupted. “Then, the night before free agency started, I’m getting a call from CP [Chris Paul] telling me how much I need to go there.”

Redick claims the Rockets offered him more money in total than the one-year, $23 million deal he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers.

“Houston offered me more total money than Philly,” he said. “I knew in Houston I was going to come off the bench. Me and Eric Gordon do a lot of the same things. We were going to play some minutes together. He would get to finish some games; maybe I would get to. But it wasn’t necessarily going to be what I wanted in this point in my career for the court part of it. Now certainly, it was a contender and all that stuff, so that’s probably the main reason I wanted to do it.”

Clippers Expecting More Ball Movement Without Chris Paul

Jul 19, 2017 11:46 AM

With the Los Angeles Clippers moving out of the Chris Paul era, Doc Rivers expects their offense to feature more ball movement.

“Well, we’ll have ball movement,” Rivers said. “That’s one of the things, for the most part, that I’ve always preached. With Chris’ skill, you wanted to take advantage of what he could do, and he was a guy that needed the ball to make plays and he did it so well. You kind of changed to do that. If you look at my work historically, it’s been more of a ball-movement, cut basketball team, and that’s what we’re going to get back to doing.”

The Clippers ran their offense primarily through Paul and they were routinely near the top of offensive efficiency.

Chris Paul Suggests Clippers Also Were Ready For Change

Jul 11, 2017 4:53 PM

Chris Paul explained his decision to leave the Los Angeles Clippers for the Houston Rockets.

"I feel like the last six years we’ve had a great run," said Paul. "I felt like it was not only a good time for change for me, but for the team, too. Everyone says, ‘We get killed. We can’t get there. We just can’t get over the hurdle.’ I felt like it was time for change."

Paul suggested the Clippers also were interested in making a change.

"I don’t think we need to get into all that stuff," said Paul when asked about how he told the Clippers he wanted to go to the Rockets. "We met. We talked. We both agreed it was time for a change."

Paul was also asked about the possibility of Carmelo Anthony joining him with the Rockets.

'Man, sit back and wait."

Austin Rivers, Chris Paul Cleared Air Following Nepotism Report

Jul 11, 2017 1:10 PM

Chris Paul reached out to Austin Rivers to refute a report that suggested part of the reason why he wanted to leave the Los Angeles Clippers was due to the favoritism Rivers was perceived as receiving from his father Doc Rivers.

After Paul texted, Austin Rivers called him to discuss it further.

“I called Chris and was like, ‘Chris, what’s going on?’’” Austin Rivers said. “Chris is like, ‘This is the biggest bull(expletive) I’ve ever seen in my life.’ Chris was just like, ‘This is a joke.’ So I asked him, I’m like, ‘You don’t need to come out and say nothing publicly, I don’t need you to do that. It’s just going to make it even more, now they’re going to drag it out two more days. I’ll take it. I don’t care. I’ve been dealing with this (dynamic) since I was six (years old). I really don’t even care.’”

Paul and Rivers spoke for approximately 40 minutes.

“What do I have to do with someone else’s move?” Austin Rivers asked. “Chris wanted to move because he’d been (with the Clippers) for a while. He’s had great years there, but he wanted something new. A lot of players want that. It’s really that simple.”
