Jazz not shopping Harpring

Feb 18, 2003 11:26 AM

Notorious rumor monger Peter Vecsey launched a big one on Sunday with a suggestion in the New York Post that the Jazz would trade Matt Harpring to the Los Angeles Clippers for Elton Brand.

Only three problems exist with that scenario:

The Jazz have never talked to the Clippers about such a deal.

The deal wouldn't work under the salary cap.

The move wouldn't make much sense for either team.

Lesson in Execution - Trade Rumor

Feb 18, 2003 11:25 AM

Long after Minnesota coach Flip Saunders had finished his postgame speech, the Timberwolves could quote the key number from the discussion.

In separate interviews, Wally Szczerbiak and Kevin Garnett cited the Jazz's 72-percent shooting in the second half as the biggest reason for Utah's 109-97 victory Monday night at the Delta Center.

...

A mention in Peter Vecsey's weekly New York Post column -- immediately after a harangue about spreading unsubstantiated rumors -- linked Harpring with the L.A. Clippers in a possible trade. The problem, according to Jazz vice president of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor, is that "there is absolutely no truth to it. I have not spoken to the Clippers in six months."

Jordan fouls out

Feb 13, 2003 9:32 AM

Steve Wyche of the Washington Post reports: Michael Jordan did something last night that he hadn't done since the 91-92 season. He fouled out.

He did so with 18 seconds left in Washington's 108-104 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Jordan scored 23 points and had a season-high 12 assists.

Knicks eye Olowonkandi

Feb 3, 2003 6:27 AM

His numbers may not be any better than that of Kurt Thomas, but he is certainly taller and longer.  For this reason the New York Knicks are going to make a push at free agent to be Michael Olowonkandi when he becomes available on July 1, Marc Berman of the New York Post is reporting.

With Olowonkandi expected to balk at any offer worth $4.5M or below the Knicks only chance would be via a sign and trade.

The Knicks made an attempt at acquiring Olowonkandi before the draft but their offer of Marcus Camby and draft picks were rejected.
