Brand breaks foot

Clippers.com is reporting that All-Star forward Elton Brand has a hairline fracture of the fourth metatarsal in his right foot and is now expected to miss four to six weeks.

The injury was diagnosed by Dr. Steven Shimoyama, a member of the Clippers? Los Angeles-based medical staff traveling with the team in Japan.

Brand, who missed 18 games last season with a stress fracture in his lower left leg, logged 21 points, 15 rebounds and tied a career-high with eight blocks in last night?s 109-100 loss to the Seattle Supersonics, the season opener for both teams.

"The club (Clippers) learned Tuesday that Glen Rice has a hyperextended right knee, which will sideline him for at least two weeks. Rice will miss the team's two remaining exhibition games and its two-game, season-opening series against the Seattle SuperSonics in Japan. Rice hopes to return for the Clippers' Nov. 7 game at Denver."

Injured could return

Shooting guard Quentin Richardson and small forward Glen Rice joined Elton Brand and Chris Kaman on the sidelines. After the team had an off day Monday, there is a possibility all four will be available today and for Thursday's exhibition against the Lakers at the Pond in Anaheim.

Clippers sign Rice

The Los Angeles Clippers have signed free agent forward Glen Rice.

The deal is for one year at the 10-year veterans minimum.

Clippers GM Elgin Baylor was upbeat about the signing.

?In Glen we are getting an experienced veteran who is considered one of the purest shooters who has ever played the game,? stated Baylor. ?He can play the shooting guard or small forward position for us and his ability to hit the open shot will spread the defense and help our low-post players.?

Rice was recently traded from Houston and then released by Utah.

Glen Rice could be returning to Los Angeles ? as a Clipper.

Clipper sources, one of whom labeled as "high" the club's interest in signing the sharpshooting free-agent forward, indicated Monday that the club is expected to make a formal pitch for the former Laker after he clears waivers Wednesday.
