Nikola Jokic Won't Play In Olympics

Jun 16, 2021 9:22 AM

Nikola Jokic will not participate in Serbia's attempt to qualify for the Olympics. Jokic also won't join the team in Tokyo should they qualify.

“To my great regret, this is the moment when I have to announce that despite my great desire, I am not able to play for the national team," said Jokic. "Simply, the condition of my body requires a longer absence from the court to recover. I have to accept that. I am sure that the guys have the quality to make a result without me, which will bring us all a lot of joy."

Jokic played in every game this season for the Denver Nuggets and won MVP.

Nikola Jokic Ejected As Nuggets Eliminated By Suns

Jun 13, 2021 11:14 PM

Nikola Jokic was ejected in the third quarter of the Denver Nuggets' Game 4 elimination to the Phoenix Suns when referees assessed a flagrant foul 2 when aggressively going for a strip steal against Cameron Payne.

After Jokic didn't get a call on his hone-handed runner, Jokic ran over to take a hard swipe at the ball held by Payne and hit him across the face.

Referee David Guthrie could be heard on the broadcast explaining the decision, saying, "After replay review, there is windup, impact and follow-through."

After he was ejected, Jokic appeared to apologize to Payne.

Michael Malone: We Quit In Game 2

Jun 10, 2021 11:38 AM

The Denver Nuggets were blown out 123-98 by the Phoenix Suns in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals and Michael Malone expressed disappointment with how his team competed.

"I felt we quit tonight, which is something you never want to see," Malone said. "So I guess for Game 3, I'm just going to try to find guys that will at least go out there and leave it all on the line. I may have a hard time coming up with five guys that fill that, but these two games, these second halves have really been disappointing, and that's an understatement."

The Nuggets trail Phoenix 0-2 in the best of seven series.

"I saw one team that wanted to be here, that played with a purpose and urgency, and one team that did not want to be here and played with no urgency," Malone said. "And that's why we got our ass kicked. ... We had a lot of guys play really bad tonight. And then we allowed the impact of not making the shot to affect the other end, and it was really -- this was just an embarrassing performance all the way around, top to bottom."

Michael Porter Jr. 'Good To Go' For Game 2, Will Barton Could Make Return

Jun 9, 2021 1:18 AM

Michael Malone said that Michael Porter Jr. should be "good to go" for Game 2 after tweaking his back in Game 1.

"He got treatment all day today, had a good conversation with him. But, barring anything unforeseen, Michael should be good to go for Game 2," said Malone.

The Nuggets are currently down 1-0 in the series.

Malone added that Will Barton could possibly make his return to the Nuggets lineup.

Barton has been out since April 23 due to a hamstring injury.

"I have a lot of hope that he's able to give us some minutes tomorrow, and if it's not Game 2, maybe it's Game 3 as we move back to Denver," added Malone.
