Jamison Fractures Left Pinky Finger

Feb 28, 2011 1:26 AM

Antawn Jamison fractured his left pinky finger in Cleveland's 95-91 loss to the 76ers on Sunday.

"We don't really know yet," coach Byron Scott said about how long Jamison will be out. "I guess we'll have a little bit more of an understanding of what's going to happen in the next day or so."

Baron Doesn't Make Cleveland Debut

Feb 27, 2011 6:44 PM

Baron Davis wasn't active for the Cavaliers on Sunday against the 76ers.

"I look at is as a rebirth," said Davis, who was traded to Cleveland by the Clippers a few days ago. "It's a new beginning. I'm excited."

Davis is reuniting with coach Byron Scott, who he played under in New Orleans.

"Playing for Coach Scott, we're together for a reason," Davis said. "There a few things my game can benefit from by playing for him."

The two had their differences while in New Orleans, but they patched things a few years ago.

"We've had some ups and downs," Davis said. "We've made some mistakes. We have a great deal of respect for each other. I'm here to help him and I knew he's going to help me. I'm glad we get to have a second try at this."

Davis, who has been bothered by a left knee injury all season, is questionable for Cleveland's game against San Antonio on Wednesday.

Clippers Expect Cavs Trade To Be Official Sunday

Feb 27, 2011 11:58 AM

The Clippers expect their acquisition of Maurice Williams and Jamario Moon from the Cavaliers for Baron Davis and a first-round pick to become official on Sunday.

There has been a delay in Davis taking and passing his physical.

The trade must be completed by 5 p.m. ET on Sunday. Williams and Moon have both passed their physicals, but they have been held out of games.

Davis didn't arrive in Cleveland until Saturday afternoon. He immediately took his physical and had an MRI on his troublesome knee.

"They're doing their due diligence on him from a physical standpoint, and we'll hear something [Sunday]," L.A. general manager Neil Olshey said.

"I'm not concerned because we had a goal and we met it, they had a goal and they met it, and they were well aware of the variables on Thursday when they made a decision to move Mo for Baron. None of that has changed."

LeBron, Gibson Clash After Party Boast

Feb 27, 2011 11:50 AM

The relationship between former friends and teammates LeBron James and Daniel Gibson took another hit on Saturday night, according to sources.

It began at a birthday party for Gibson on Friday night. During the event, two witnesses told ESPN.com that Gibson made a reference to being the new king of Cleveland during a toast.

According to a source close to Gibson, James became upset upon hearing about the claim. The source said James and Gibson later resolved the issue because Gibson didn't mean to insult James.

However, the issue wasn't resolved before the two engaged in a war of words on Twitter.

Cavaliers Turn Optimistic Heading Into Draft Period With Extra Lottery Selection

Feb 26, 2011 9:56 PM

Byron Scott was very pleased with general manager Chris Grant's ability to acquire an unprotected lottery pick from the Clippers ahead of the deadline.

Scott went so far as to hug Grant.

"I told him he did an unbelievable job," Scott said.

The trade of Mo Williams and Jamario Moon for Baron Davis and the pick was Grant's first major move as general manager.

"I think he answered a whole lot of questions," Scott said. "We all felt he was definitely the right man for the job. The man knows what he's doing. He didn't panic. He wanted to stand pat and make sure we did the right thing."

"I feel great about our situation," Grant said. "We have the tools and resources to put ourselves in a position to do things the right way. From our standpoint, this is one of the best opportunities to be in."

The Cavaliers will also have their own draft pick, which is almost guaranteed to be a top-four selection.

"The draft is pretty important, I think, in all sports. It's not often you have a team that has multiple picks that are unprotected picks in the top 10 in the same year."

Bulls Likely Would Have Signed Hamilton After Buyout

Feb 26, 2011 3:16 PM

The Cavaliers and Pistons worked out a trade to send Richard Hamilton and a lottery-protected pick in 2012 to Cleveland for a $12.6 million trade exception and second round pick.

Cleveland was most interested in the pick, but would have let Hamilton play for them. The Cavaliers have several other veterans playing heavy minutes, such as Antawn Jamison and Anthony Parker, despite their rebuilding efforts.

Hamilton was not interested in playing for a last place team and sought a buyout. Hamilton likely would have signed with the Bulls after clearing waivers, sources say.

Cleveland wanted him to take $18 million in the buyout, arguing that he could secure his 2011-12 salary now when it’s possible that money wouldn’t be paid him during a lockout next season. Hamilton rejected the offer and Friday's protest against John Kuester was a consequence of the stalemate.
