LeBron Misses Player Introductions In Cleveland

Mar 30, 2011 2:04 AM

When LeBron James' name was called during the introductions at Tuesday's Heat-Cavs game at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena, LeBron didn't appear on the court.

James later entered the court when the lights were down for the Cavs' introductions.

During the broadcast on NBA TV, Kevin McHale said he'd never seen anything like that before in an NBA game.

In his post-game interview, James explained that he was using the restroom during the introductions.

No Access To Cavs Arena For LeBron's Entourage

Mar 29, 2011 6:05 PM

There was a time when LeBron James and his entourage had the run of Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena. That appears to no longer be the case.

James arrival for this morning's Miami Heat shootaround was delayed today when he arrived at the entrance of the Cleveland Cavaliers parking garage in a private car with a driver and a second car.

James was eventually cleared to enter the building, but several people with him were not. A Cavs spokesman said that visiting NBA players are not normally given private car access to the underground garage.  Exceptions are made when requests are made in advance.

Hickson Realizes Future Will Be At Power Forward

Mar 26, 2011 12:36 PM

J.J. Hickson had 17 points and 17 rebounds on Wednesday in his first game back at power forward. At 6-9, his future is at that position and not at center, where he has been playing many of his minutes this season.

"A lot of the plays we run for the four-man are on the perimeter," Hickson said. "I have to make a conscious effort to position myself by the basket."

Hickson learned a lot about rebounding from former teammate Ben Wallace.

"The main thing I learned from Ben is how to position my body and knowing that it's a battle of feet to get the rebound," Hickson said. "It's a mix of technique and will to get the ball."

Cavaliers Working On 'Rich Man's Rebuild'

Mar 19, 2011 11:32 AM

The Cavaliers are wokring on what one executive called "a rich man's rebuild", which includes taking on contracts such as Baron Davis in exchange for picks.

GM Chris Grant is also considering a trade for Richard Hamilton where more picks are acquired.

Jamison's Season Is Over

Mar 18, 2011 1:09 PM

Speaking for the first time since surgery to repair the left little finger he fractured on Feb. 27 against Philadelphia, Jamison admitted Thursday night he's done for the season.

The gentlemanly Jamison has been through quite a lot these past two seasons. He was with the Washington Wizards in the collapse after the Gilbert Arenas gun fiasco, got traded to the Cavs in time for their early exit from the playoffs, suffered through "The Decision" like everyone else, and then was the leader of a team that lost an NBA-record 26 games earlier this season.

"I thought we'd have fared better," he said of this season. "But due to injuries and trying to find our way to move in the right direction, we just didn't quite pan out the way we wanted to and that's been tough. Losing that many games in a row was definitely tough."

For now, Jamison has some goals for his young teammates.

"I want them to be successful," he said. "I just want these guys to stay positive. I want to let them know that the coaching staff and everybody is definitely observing them and seeing what they've got so don't take this opportunity for granted at all."

Byron Scott Questions Team's Heart

Mar 14, 2011 3:12 PM

The Oklahoma City Thunder clobbered the Cavaliers on Sunday 95-75, angering Cleveland coach Byron Scott with another lethargic effort.

''Really starting to question what type of heart we have as a basketball team,'' Scott said. ''If you are a competitor, no matter what the situation is or what the year has brought, you are going to come and compete every single night. We have not done that the last two games.''

In the third quarter, the Thunder's Russell Westbrook scored five baskets in a row, all on layups which the Cavaliers never really challenged.

''He's a great player, but it gets to a point as a team where you say enough is enough and somebody has to knock him on his ass,'' Scott said of Westbrook. ''It's as simple as that, and that's where the heart part comes in. Or are you just going to keep backing down and taking it?''

Cavaliers To Use Thunder Model For Rebuild

Mar 13, 2011 5:48 PM

The Cavaliers are attempting to stockpile assets and trade picks to rebuilt their team in the same way as Sam Presti did when he took over the Sonics.

''You've got to admire the way they've done it, no doubt about that,'' Byron Scott said of the Thunder. ''It's nothing that's going to happen overnight. That's the fantasyland when you think it's going to happen in a year. People have to be patient with that. You've got to give these guys time to develop, and sometimes it takes them a couple years.''

GM Chris Grant was elated to acquire an additional lottery pick in this year's draft, even if it cost the team financially because of the contract to Baron Davis.

Cavs Believe Trading Away Baron Will Be Possible

Mar 13, 2011 1:28 PM

The Cavaliers are optimistic that they will be able to trade Baron Davis next season if he arrives in camp healthy and motivated.

Davis was acquired before the Feb. 24th deadline and has one of the NBA's most onerous contracts.

Cleveland GM Grant Traveling To See Any Potential Lottery Pick In Person

Mar 13, 2011 1:25 PM

Cleveland general manager Chris Grant has been on the road scouting draft prospects far more than his predecessor Danny Ferry.

During the final few seasons of Ferry's tenure, the Cavaliers did not own a high draft pick. The Cavaliers will have two lottery selections this season.

The franchise philosophy for Grant's travels is that they do not want to make a lottery selection on a player the GM hasn't seen himself.

Rockets Would Have Taken Baron, No. 1 Pick For Yao

Mar 10, 2011 3:10 PM

The Clippers could have traded Baron Davis and their number one pick in the 2011 NBA Draft that was used to acquire Mo Williams and Jamario Moon in a similar deal for the expiring contract of Yao Ming, according to Bill Simmons.

Los Angeles made the trade in order to improve their salary cap situation in each of the next two offseasons, but a trade for Yao would have produced more financial savings.

Simmons is known for having a close friendship with Houston general manager Daryl Morey.
