The Chicago Bulls have been confident they will re-sign Zach LaVine in restricted free agency.

LaVine was asked if he believes he's worth a max contract.

“There are things you work for,” LaVine said. “Max players are top of the line. There are a lot of dudes in the NBA who haven’t been top of the line because of money situations or the cap is bigger or a weird offseason.

“You are what you’re worth. Obviously, you can’t say no to getting one. I see myself being an elite player in this league. I’m going to work for that every day until I get there.”

LaVine is represented by Bill Duffy.

“There’s a lot that goes into it,” LaVine said. “The agency and front office, they’re both trying to get the better of each (other), but I think this situation is a little bit different because there’s mutual respect on both sides and understanding. There’s no bad blood between us, so I think everything will go smoothly.

“I’m not stressed at all. Whatever the number is or terms they’re going to come to, it will happen. That’s why I have great agents. And we have respect, communication and understanding with the front office (so) we’ll let that work itself out.

“I can’t let it get to me. It’s not going to. I have to prepare myself for next year and be ready to take on a bigger role and help the team get better.”

The Chicago Bulls have waived C.J. Fair.

Fair was signed earlier on Monday but was waived to create a roster spot to sign Sean Kilpatrick.

The Chicago Bulls have signed Sean Kilpatrick to a three-year, $6.2 million deal.

The Bulls will hold team options on Kilpatrick for the next two seasons.

The Bulls signed Kilpatrick as part of their midlevel exception.

The Chicago Bulls have signed forward CJ Fair. 

In a related move, prior to signing Fair, Chicago waived forward Jaylen Johnson. 

This season, Fair (6-8, 218) appeared in 47 G League games (25 starts), splitting time between the Windy City Bulls and the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. On the year, he averaged 10.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 25.4 minutes per game.

The Chicago Bulls have signed forward Jaylen Johnson.

Johnson (6-9, 230) has played in 49 games (37 starts) this season for the Windy City Bulls. He holds G League averages of 11.7 points, 7.6 boards and 2.9 assists in 29.0 minutes per game.

Antonio Blakeney underwent an MRI on Thursday on his left wrist, followed by an examination by the team’s hand specialist, Dr. John Fernandez.  Initially diagnosed with a left wrist sprain, the MRI confirmed that he sustained a non-displaced scaphoid fracture in his left wrist.  As a result of the injury, Blakeney will miss the remainder of the season.

Blakeney incurred the injury in Chicago’s game at New York on Monday night. 

A two-way player who split time this season between the Bulls and the Windy City Bulls, Blakeney saw action in 19 games with Chicago and averaged 7.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 16.5 minutes.

The NBA issued a warning to Chicago Bulls about their practice of resting healthy veterans. 

The Bulls have sat players like Robin Lopez and Justin Holiday as they rebuild. 

Chicago now plans on playing Lopez and Holiday regularly. 

Bobby Portis will be eligible for a contract extension this offseason and the Chicago Bulls plan to engage him on negotiations.

Portis will make $2.49 million next season in the final year of his rookie contract.

If the Bulls and Portis are unable to agree upon an extension, he will become a restricted free agent in 2019.

Portis has averaged 17.1 points and 7.4 rebounds while shooting 47 percent and 39 percent from 3-point range since the Bulls traded Nikola Mirotic.
