Raptors Privately Considering Trading Bosh

May 31, 2009 2:29 PM

The Raptors are privately acknowledging for the first time that they might need to trade Chris Bosh, rather than risk losing him to free agency in 2010, according to a report from the New York Daily News.

The Bulls remain interested in Bosh, but Luol Deng would have to be part of a package going to the Raptors.

Bosh could also end up in Detroit in a package that would net the Raptors Carlos Boozer, according to the report.

May 31, 2009 8:49 AM

Bulls assistant coach Del Harris has decided to retire after 50 years in the business.

Harris, who turns 72 next month, opens up a spot on the team's bench for Pete Myers or Randy Brown, a Kings assistant who interviewed with head coach Vinny Del Negro last week.

He had one year left on his contract with Chicago, and compiled a 556-457 record as a head coach in the NBA.

Allegations Could Prove Costly For Rose

May 30, 2009 4:26 PM

Derrick Rose's bright first NBA season is now being clouded by allegations of major violations at Memphis and that someone altered his college transcript.

"This is going to be a multiyear story, and the problem for Derrick Rose is he's at the foundation of this," Marc Ganis, president of Chicago-based consulting company Sports Corp. Ltd., told the Associated Press.

The NCAA claims that an unknown person took the SATs for a knowing player and that the player used it to get to Memphis.

Compounding Rose's issues were reports that Rose was one of four Simeon (High School) athletes with a grade that got bumped up for a month.

The only word out of Rose's camp was a statement by attorney Daniel E. Reidy, who said the point guard cooperated in an investigation by Memphis that uncovered "no wrongdoing on his part."

Report: Rose's High School Team Investigated

May 30, 2009 9:30 AM

Illinois High School Association officials said late Friday that they are investigating the eligibility of several players from the 2006 and 2007 Simeon teams.

Those clubs won the Class AA boys basketball championship, with Bulls rookie Derrick Rose on the roster.

According to the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times, the investigation is in response to allegations of grade changing.

IHSA executive director Marty Hickman told the Tribune that Simeon might have to forfeit games and championships if players were found to have been ineligible when they competed.

Bulls Appear To Be Looking For A PG

May 30, 2009 9:22 AM

Point guard is the deepest position in this year's NBA Draft, and the Bulls appear to be interested in selecting one.

UCLA's Darren Collison and Syracuse's Jonny Flynn have both been quoted as saying that Chicago has major interest in them.

"I had a chance to meet with the coach from the Chicago Bulls," Collison said Friday. "He was real laid-back and cool. I had my best workout for the Bulls. They said they were really interested."

The Bulls have the 16th and 26th picks in next month's NBA Draft.

"Teams are looking at me because they know I can step in right away and play," Collison added. "That's what happens when you stay all four years. You look at guys like  Courtney Lee, Aaron Brooks, Brandon Roy -- all four-year guys playing on their teams in big-game situations.

"Maybe that's why the Bulls are showing a lot of interest. All I can do is be myself. I have the experience. Teams like that."

Rose Tied To Recruiting Violation At Memphis

May 28, 2009 10:42 AM

The University of Memphis is responding to NCAA allegations that charge the men's basketball program with major violations, both of which involve Derrick Rose, according to a report from the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

The player's name is blacked out in the report, but the wording indicates that he only played in the 2007-08 season and Rose is the only player that meets the criteria.

The exact wording is as follows:

"It is alleged that [blacked out] prospective men's basketball student-athlete failed to deport himself in accordance with the generally recognized high standards of honesty and sportsmanship normally associated with the conduct and administration of intercollegiate athletics for his knowing fraudulence or misconduct and administration of intercollegiate examination. Specifically, on [blacked out] an unknown individual completed [blacked out] SAT, with [blacked out] knowledge, which was used to obtain his admission into the institution and to certify his NCAA eligibility. [Blacked out] subsequently competed for the men's basketball team through the 2007-08 season, which included his participation in the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship."

Bulls Unlikely To Trade Tyrus Thomas

May 25, 2009 8:55 AM

The Bulls are unlikely to trade forward Tyrus Thomas, unless they can deal him as a part of a package for a guy like Chris Bosh or Carlos Boozer.

Thomas was one of the heroes in Chicago's Game 1 win over Boston, but disappeared in the next six games of the first-round series.

While the Bulls were disappointed in Thomas' overall performance in the postseason, they are happy with the strides the third-year player made this season.

May 21, 2009 3:05 PM

New Chicago GM Gar Forman was asked about the future of unrestricted free agent Ben Gordon.

"We like Ben," Forman said. "He's our kind of guy. He's got great makeup and character, a great work ethic. Our goal is to re-sign Ben Gordon. In the conversations we've had, I think Ben wants to stay here in Chicago."

Bulls Name Forman General Manager

May 21, 2009 12:25 PM

The Chicago Bulls named Gar Forman the team?s General Manager on Thursday.

A member of the Bulls? front office for the last 11 seasons, Forman came to the Bulls as a Scout prior to the 1998-99 season.  Since then, he has overseen a wide array of responsibilities within the Bulls Basketball Operations Department, most recently as the team?s Director of Player Personnel, a post he has held for the last five seasons.

According to Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, ?The promotion of Gar Forman to General Manager of the Chicago Bulls publicly formalizes a successful formula that has been evolving for some time.  Over that time, Gar has been assuming more and more of the daily GM duties, freeing John Paxson to spend more of his time and energies on talent evaluation, and on long-term, strategic planning for the organization.  As winning in the NBA becomes more complex, team building in the front office is as important as it is on the court.  The strong finish by this young Bulls team, coupled with its valiant efforts during one of the best playoff series in NBA history, places the franchise at an important juncture.  The front office tandem of Paxson and Forman will continue to be charged with preparing us for an even brighter future.  I am excited at their prospects.  I think our fans are, too.?

?I am very honored to be named General Manager of the Chicago Bulls.  I would like to thank Jerry Reinsdorf for allowing me to evolve and present me with such a great opportunity,? said Forman.  ?During my 11 years with the Bulls, I have had the chance to progress professionally and I am eager to expand into this new role.   I look forward to continue working with John Paxson on the challenge of building the Chicago Bulls and elevating the Bulls into the NBA?s upper echelon of teams.?
