Hinrich Could Miss Time With Thumb Injury

Nov 29, 2009 10:51 AM

Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich is set to see a specialist for his sprained left thumb.

An MRI revealed that the ligament remains attached to the bone, but Hinrich didn't practice on Saturday and appears unlikely to face the Bucks on Monday.

He missed Chicago's loss to Utah on Thursday.

"We're going to wait and see what happens with that evaluation on Monday and then make a decision," coach Vinny Del Negro said of adding a guard. "We weren't even sure if Jannero [Pargo] was going to practice because of a little shoulder impingement."

Tax Keeping Bulls From Adding Players

Nov 28, 2009 5:14 PM

The Bulls have two open roster spots, but adding a player would put them over the luxury tax.

Without guard Kirk Hinrich, who recently injured his thumb, Chicago has just 10 healthy players on their roster. That includes center Aaron Gray, who just returned to the active roster.

"That's something we're continuing to look at, adding another player," general manager Gar Forman said. "We're not gonna do anything as of right now, but it's something we may do as we move forward."

Jazz Ready For First Thanksgiving Game Since 1978

Nov 26, 2009 9:26 AM

The Jazz will play on Thanksgiving Day for the first time since 1978.

The Jazz have typically requested home games on the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas in order to give their fans coming home for the holiday a chance to see the team play.

"We thought, you know what, the positive thing is people eat Thanksgiving early enough, and what do you then do Thanksgiving night?" Jazz president Randy Rigby said. "So we thought with it being a late game that really people would enjoy having something to do."

Utah will host the Chicago Bulls in a game televised on TNT.

RealGM Note: Matt Harpring is the only member of the Jazz roster who was alive in 1978.

Bulls Two Weeks From Getting Thomas Back

Nov 24, 2009 3:51 PM

Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas is still at least two weeks away from returning to the court.

He fractured the radius in his left forearm while weightlifting earlier this month.

"Tyrus brings us more depth, more versatility, more athleticism," coach Vinny Del Negro said. "It's a big loss for us, no question."

Chicago is just 3-5 since Thomas suffered the injury.

Bulls Looking To Get Tougher

Nov 23, 2009 7:12 AM

After getting pushed around in games against the Lakers and Nuggets, the Bulls are focused on getting tougher.

"We just have to be tougher," guard Kirk Hinrich said. "It seems like the last couple of games [the officials] are just letting a lot go. We have to have a feel for how they're calling the game and adjust to it. We have to go out there and do what it takes."

In the Denver game, Chicago was outscored 37-22 in the fourth quarter.

"We weren't tough; we weren't tough at all," center Joakim Noah said. "We definitely got roughed up, but it has nothing to do with the refs. That's not an excuse. That's more on us. We have to step it up."

Additional Work Paying Off For Salmons

Nov 22, 2009 6:47 PM

Bulls guard John Salmons is starting to get into a rhythm this season.

He has averaged 20.5 points per game on 51.6% shooting through the first two games of Chicago's current six-game road trip.

Salmons entered the road trip shooting 31.7%.

He has been staying late at practices to attempt hundreds of jumpers and has started attacking the basket more.

"Shooting 3s is never my first option," Salmons told the Chicago Tribune.

"I always try to get to the basket first. If I'm open, I'm definitely going to take the 3. But you can get caught up in shooting 3s. Once they start going in, you can lose yourself a bit. And you always want to stay true to yourself."

Jordan: 'No One Great Player In NBA'

Nov 21, 2009 10:06 AM

Michael Jordan says there are a host of players worthy of having their number retired by the NBA.

Recently, players have initiated talks that Jordan's No. 23 should be retired league-wide. The firestorm started when Cavaliers star LeBron James announced that he'll soon switch from No. 23 to No. 6.

"It was very nice, I totally understand that," Jordan told NBA TV. "But I'm a guy that says there is no one great player in the NBA. The NBA lasts a lot longer than one particular person so I understand what his point is."

The NBA leaves the decision on retiring numbers to individual teams.

"Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, all those guys should have their jerseys retired, too," Jordan added. "I understand his gesture, but I am in the same group as those guys so I wouldn't want to see my jersey retired unless you retire those guys. It is a compliment. I totally understand that. I appreciate LeBron for doing that and it is very thoughtful."
